And a group of businesses and residents in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, has filed a lawsuit targeting the Republican National Committee and President Donald Trump's reelection campaign as a "public nuisance." The Jacksonville Business Journal, a CBJ sister publication, reports the complaint alleges the Republican National Convention — which was yanked from Charlotte last month due to the president's demands for a full-capacity arena — could be injurious to the health, welfare and property rights of the community. For relief, the group is seeking assurances the campaign will take precautionary measures such as social distancing and wearing masks. Trump, who has refused to wear masks in public, said this week that plans for the RNC are "flexible."

You aaaaaaalmost feel sorry for J'ville but not really yet also no sense of schadenfreude. I'm just glad it's not being held here any longer - because even with planning, it was going to be a disaster for whichever city hosts this [dog and pony] show : https://www.actionnewsjax.com/news/politics/mayor-curry-admits-rnc-will-not-generate-100-million-economic-impact-because-coronavirus/CCHO3I5LK5BZVKDQJQ4V2RTUAI/

Who could've foreseen an event that took years and millions of dollars to plan security for couldn't be pulled off in a new location with 75 days notice?

Sheriff says Jacksonville not ready to provide security for RNC

Yeah - I think they’ve asked Charlotte (CMPD) for assistance planning and possibly equipment & personnel.  Hopefully we will hear more about what’s going on soon.

Wholly Cow - Just did some reading an found that the JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff Office) asked all 67 Florida County Sheriffs  for 2000 Officers to assist and so far only have about 500 pledged to assist with the RNC.  They are scrambling to get prepared but only have 34 days remaining....  Yikes!

No one wants to discuss the $16 million dollars the city spent?

Worf: And the city is still owed money as well, right?

Harrison: It is. Charlotte has spent $16.7 million preparing mostly for security. And the city attorney sent the RNC a letter over the weekend saying that: We aren’t spending any more money; we expected the Department of Justice to pay us back; and that you can’t expand your convention because we aren’t preparing for it.

It not really 'spent'  its all reimbursable by the RNC and/or the 50 million from the feds for hosting.   It works just like an expense report at your job.  put it on your card and file a report with receipts and get your money back.
