The Triad Business Journal is reporting the following news:

MGT Construction Management Inc. of Richmond, Va., on Jan. 5 filed a $3.7 million building permit to remodel the courthouse, located at 50 W. Fourth St., into 57 apartments.  Clachan Properties, also of Richmond, is developing the project. The Forsyth County Commissioners in March 2012 approved for Clachan to buy the courthouse for $700,000. In March 2013, Clachan CEO Herb Coleman said that the company had applied for federal tax credits and local exemptions to get the project started.

Clachan's plans come as a number of other high-profile apartment projects are underway now in downtown Winston-Salem, which is the Triad's most active submarket for multifamily construction.
