Would be nice if you’d pull out your fabulous drone and twiddle your thumbs with making some fine new pics for our enjoyment  :D

Nothing really new to take pics of right now. Everything still looks the same from my last ones. Maybe if some of the planned or maybe I should say dead projects downtown like the Avant, 10 S. Academy Street, Kimpton, Markley + Main, Delano, etc. would ever start construction I would take some new pics. Too much to ask for I guess just like with landing new air service at GSP Airport.

Yep, pretty slow right now. Only 2 cranes up and they are babies. :dontknow:

And one of those projects has completely stopped construction. You should see some of the pics of all of the cranes up in Charlotte, Nashville, and Austin currently. Makes it even more depressing with what's going on here right now.

My guess is the Peace Center announcement from yesterday will move this convention center project forward quickly. There is no doubt they would compliment each other. Our leadership is too good to let this project die.

Hmmm... why would a city manager wait on a project of this scope?  Why would interested parties wait around for a city manager?

I'm not sure I understand. This type of thing falls within the City Manager's purview. I'm not sure we know what all of the hurdles are that are facing this project. There's too much money already committed to this project to think that it would die.

I agree completely with your last two sentences. Maybe I am misreading it but I took it as what is holding it back is the city manager not getting back to them, like he's dragging his feet. So my questions are, why would a city manager not make a project of this scope a priority, and why would parties involved not push him on it? But if I misread then never mind.

Why are you assuming that nothing is happening?

Because there hasn’t been a single update from the city on it in over a year. You would think they would at least come out with a statement saying the project is still moving forward at minimum.

Looks like there's an article about this project in today's Greenville News, but I can't access it because I'm not a subscriber.  Would someone mind to take a look and provide a summary?

It basically involves Bob Jones and their plans for a museum at the site. Sadly nothing real new and everything we already know in regards to that. The writer of the article has reached out to Beth Brotherton with the city for an update on the overall project but hasn’t received a response back yet. Here is what Bob Jones had to say:

"As part of the private-public partnership for the proposed facilities on the Reedy River in downtown Greenville, M&G continues to work with the project stakeholders including the developers, conference center, hotel, local governments, Greenville County Museum of Art, and architects.

"Due to COVID’s impact on all of the project partners, plus leadership changes in the city, the project’s progress has been delayed nearly three years. Much of the progress from late 2020 to present has been led by the city’s consultants working to 'right size' the conference center to best serve our community. "

Good to have an update though, thanks for posting. I really hope a lot has been going on behind the scenes in terms of planning and design; this has a potential to be something outstanding for years to come. And I am glad the Bob Jones collection is still going to be part of this, that collection is something special that a lot more people would have the opportunity to see.

The city never responded back to the Greenville News. That’s all I needed to hear. I imagine the county square project killed this. Next the developers will blame high interest rate and the upcoming recession.
