Costs have probably doubled this year. Just too big of a project. A much smaller version could happen one of these days. 10-20 years?

Man, you guys are like two peas in a pod. According to you two Greenville is folding up like a cheap tent in the wind.  And I thought this was a growing place doing well. 🙄

When the time is right. They will tell you when. They'll also tell you if it's dead. Have they told you that? A lot goes into these projects. If it were easy the average person could do it.

We get the mushroom treatment! love it!

Honestly, this thing is a huge giveaway of public $$ to the two people who need it the least.

Because it is too expensive/big. May get a scaled back mini version one of these days!

It‘s a beautiful parking lot. :D Only in Greenville can this many downtown projects get delayed or cancelled. Never fails.

Gosh, we have such poor leadership in Greenville. Can’t do anything right. Greenville has accomplished nothing in the past 25 years. 🙄

Well it's been nearly 4 years since this came out (hard to believe).

Gman, do you know how to contact Aughtry or Hughes? What about going straight to the source instead of the paper?

I’ll send an email to both and see if they respond back.

Really no point in talking about this again. Not happening period. End of story.

Agreed. No news in 18 months now is all you need to know. The Fed continuing to raise interest rates has made this project not financially feasible. Time for a moderator to close this thread and move on.

From the Journal article interview with Mayor White:

We have a great location on the river – donated property. Funding will come from the state, the county and the city. So the stars are really aligned. It’s still an issue with construction costs being whether we can build something that is within the budget, as large as that is. You’ve got parking issues that must be addressed too. So it’s a complicated project, but a lot of people are focused on it every day of the week, by the way. I think the tale will be told in the next – I don’t know – just in the next couple of months whether that site is the one we continue to focus on or whether we have to look at another site.

Comment: seemed kind of odd that a donated site is not the best option. Probably more being unsaid than said though.

Not surprising they are taking a step back and looking at all of their options with inflation where it is right now. I wonder if they would look at a site that is already owned by the city or even county downtown. Maybe County Square??? I still think this site along the river is the best one though. Glad to see they will make a decision in a few months and not in a few years. Also glad to see people working hard on it behind the scenes everyday. Hopefully we will see a full update come Summer.
