New County Courthouse & City/County Government Center

Recommended Posts

Temporary judges' parking lot has curbing.  Once it's done, the new central power plant can be built on the current judges' lot behind the current courthouse.

Edit: Since it's a new page, here's the link to the live construction webcam again.  It shows parking deck construction.

New judge's parking lot is complete and open.  Demolition is starting at the old judge's lot (3rd pic).

What looks like a pile driver has been working at the parking deck site, preparing for the foundation, I presume.

A lot of foundation work for the parking deck has been completed, and now a large crawler crane is being assembled on-site.  It will presumably be used to assemble the deck structure, so hopefully that will begin pretty soon.  From the webcam:

Parking deck progress from this weekend:

At the last DRB meeting, it was mentioned that the actual courthouse building could come up for review as soon as February's meeting.  I'm looking forward to see more details about it.

Parking deck progress. They're now working on the main stair/elevator/pedestrian-entrance area.

The brickwork (the detail is not noticeable in these photos) is really attractive.

I can't wait to see the design of the City/County office. I hope they just match the court house on a larger scale for a more uniform looked downtown

I really like it. I mean, its not perfect, but I think it's well designed and will last a long time. Glad to see this thing taking shape and moving forward!

Now, any word on the city/county building?

I think I read somewhere that we should hear something about the city/county admin building later this year.  Likely the location and site plan first, then renderings after that.  I suspect that process will accelerate now that the courthouse design is complete (groundbreaking projected for July, btw).

I also noticed some initial dismantling has begun on the current courthouse annex that will be demolished first to make room for the new courthouse.

And the parking deck continues to progress.

Parking deck structure is fully assembled.  Still have all the less-noticeable work to go (paving, drainage, electrical/lights, elevators, finishes, etc).

I know its needed for the courthouse, but that thing is way bigger than I expected it to be.

If anyone ever says they can't find parking in downtown they need to be slapped.

It's pretty much the same size as the Dunbar Street parking deck, but this one is out here all alone, which makes it look bigger.  Once the new courthouse is built, it won't seem quite as large.  But yeah, we have PLENTY of parking downtown.

From the vantage point of the West Main / Daniel Morgan Avenue intersection that garage looks enormous!
