I really do like the stations that are more locally inspired in their design such as Longwood, Winter Park, Amtrak.  It adds a nice touch.

I think the Church Street Station design is a missed opportunity to build a grand gateway station into downtown, one that complements the existing historic Church Street buildings.  An overhead canopy would have been entirely appropriate at this location.  Something like this:

I understand the need for frugality, and if containers are the cheapest way to go, I say fine. But leave them looking like containers, I say. A little modern industrial look should be fine next to cotton bales on old hand carts. Repaint them, sure. But re-stencil tare weights etc, even make local references with humorous shipping companies. But this. Is. Horrible. :

I agree that, as represented in that quickie, down & dirty, slapped together on the fly rendering, it does look terrible.

But I'm fairly confident that when they're actually done, it won't look anywhere near as cheesy as it does in that graphic.

Of course, it might not look exceptionally good either, but I don't think that rendering is anything that one could make a determination off of.

I'm hopefully hoping for the best.

Matt, thank you for these updates.  Looking forward to the rest.

What is your opinion regarding the utility of the station design?

NP. I think when you start with two facts 1)Funding for public transportation is not easy in FL 2)It's incredibly hot out most of the year (and/or raining). It becomes difficult to build stations that will make you feel comfortable and make you wanting to ride the train.

While there are certainly cities that have nicer commuter rail stations ours are actually pretty nice. Here's a picture of one of the MetroLink stations in STL.

Yes it's light rail but I honestly was only expecting station designs like this...which are a bus stop with a platform.

The one's like the Florida Hospital station look great. The only surprise is that they don't have any fans on the platforms. In the summer that would be a major help.

Aside from making a station inside or underground I think we have a lot to be proud of with these stations.

This whole thing is completely stupid. What a complete joke. Just drag up some old crap from James E. Strate's rail yard dump down in Taft and call it day.

What a great marketing strategy! Hopefully it runs through the whole line, I'll definitely park at the Sand Lake station and ride all the way to Winter Park (I'm coming from the Hunters Creek area).
