If you mean "venue" as in that's where the contestants are staying, then so what? Some hotel rooms are booked. Yippie. The event will be at the River Center. In Baton Rouge.

Regardless, my original assumption still holds truth to it.

Throwing money at schools isn't an instant fix, you've argued this point about other issues.

This is also a guaranteed instant investment return.

Look I'm not any happier about this than you, but here's a wake-up call for all you St. George people. Your schools (education wise) will be just as bad, you all have t do Common Core and so does BR. That's why nothing can be done at the schools whether kip wants to or not Common Core was made mandatory for all the public schools in the state so curriculum wise it's not going to get better.

Well what is going to make the St. George schools better? More discipline? Please explain to me how the St. George schools will be better. Common Core is terrible and will be mandatory for the St. George schools, so really how will they be better?

Don't take this personally but I don't think you understand the situation. I don't know if its because you don't have kids, or don't live in the area wanting to split off or if it's something else.

St George residents want to have schools like Baker, Zachary and Central. They want to be in charge of their schools for their kids. They don't want to be run by the incompetent group that is overseeing the horrible Baton Rouge schools. This issue has nothing to do with Common Core.

I know what the situation is, I simply think it's a very sad excuse to split off. Because bottom line the schools will be slightly better, and sure the city would be run by "locals" yet if anyone trusts a politician now days then they need some couch time.

If it does not pass many will vote with their feet and move out of parish and with it tax dollars. Many already have. When my wife and I lived in the Jones Creek area we loved it. The only reason we moved to Ascension Parish was because of the schools.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and spoken like someone who doesn't have kids. You bring up Common Core and now politicians as if that's relevant to this issue. It's not. You have a strong opinion for a topic you have no experience dealing with.

From people I have talked to about this issue they want a new ciriculum, that will not happen for St. George. Period. The only thing they could do would be to fix the disciplinarian issues and teaching tools. Good luck with that, also you say I have no experience with how terrible schools are in this city...my family just pulled my younger siblings out of Mercy and put them in St. Jude (that's the only place we could put them). 

 

I guess my main thing is why run away from the problem when we could protest and get those people out of the positions their in, this is our city, it's time we act like it is.

Baton Rouge looked good on the National/World Scene on TV last night! Congrats to Miss Nevada for winning...Props to Louisiana for going 4th out of 51...still don't know how Miss Utah was shunned out of Top 20 lol...Overall this event looked like a success to me!

Mayor Kip Holden—who was among those who attended the Miss USA pageant on Sunday night while it was broadcast live from the River Center to 70 countries around the globe—tells 225 he's already working with officials to get the event back in Baton Rouge. "We already started planning on it last night," he says. "[Pageant owner Donald] Trump said he would like it to come here again. I intend to continue negotiations. You can't afford to let something like this go away because of the magnitude and exposure for Baton Rouge and its people as well." ​Holden says he was more than impressed with the way Baton Rouge was portrayed throughout the broadcast. "The production company needs to be highly complimented for the way they put Baton Rouge in the spotlight," he says. "They kept talking about visiting Baton Rouge, and you kept hearing that expression. It is almost like being hypnotized." DDD Executive Director Davis Rhorer also told Daily Report this morning that the TV exposure was invaluable to Baton Rouge. "Baton Rouge shined really bright," he said. "It shows we can compete with anybody. The preparation was first class. Everybody handled this thing so professionally. The long-term effect is 10-fold. We can now compete in the big leagues."

On the morning after the 2014 Miss USA pageant took over downtown Baton Rouge—with Nevada's Nia Sanchez taking the crown and Miss Lousiana USA Brittany Guidry finishing fourth overall—DDD Executive Director Davis Rhorer says he is very proud of the city. "The way the event was handled was wonderful," Rhorer says. Downtown has been buzzing for the past two weeks with pageant-related events at the Old State Capitol, Restaurant IPO and Boudreaux & Thibodeaux's, he says, with downtown restaurants especially seeing an uptick in sales on Sunday. "I saw so many people eating at downtown restaurants and walking over to the River Center," he says. "That's all by our master plan design, making downtown convenient to the visitor of our city. We're in a transformative state in our city. We're taking the next step." While Rhorer says he could not estimate the total economic impact of the event on the city, or speculate how many rooms were booked across Baton Rouge, Visit Baton Rouge CEO Paul Arrigo previously estimated the pageant would fill somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 additional hotel rooms. The event took place before a sold out Baton Rouge River Center crowd, and was aired live on NBC. Approximately 70 countries saw the broadcast, which included many shots of Baton Rouge. That kind of television exposure is key, Rhorer says. "Baton Rouge shined really bright," he says. "It shows we can compete with anybody. The preparation was first class. I understand the significance you know, but we don't have that in Baton Rouge and the pageant was marketed as being in Baton Rouge specifically and not New Orleans.

 

Other than that it was a beautiful production, can't wait for it to return.

We definitely got exposure, they must have said "Baton Rouge" at least 100 times! lol

And showed the mayors face more than the girls! 

 

Good publicity for the city, definitely puts us higher up now that city showed it can host big national events. 

 

The biggest issue I had was the use of the French Quarter backdrop.

I feel Lafayette wouldn't have had that problem.

They could have accomplished the same result without the Quarter. We're Louisiana for heaven's sake!!
