MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 12, 2014 So apparently the field will not be widened yet, but may eventually be widened to 75 yards, which is a healthy width for professional soccer. Also, the stadium will be changing its name to "Charlotte Memorial Stadium". http://crowntownsoccer.com/mini-update/
jwakefield 3 Report post Posted September 12, 2014 Is there another forum where excited fans are gathering and talking about this Charlotte Independence stuff, way in advance?? I know about CrownTownSoccer, and I've twitter-met some of you... Just wondering if this was the only place. I'd talk about it daily.
MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) This one (still on UP) might be more fitting... http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php/topic/51226-mls-in-charlotte/page-9 ... the conversation accidentally spilled onto this renovation page the last few months. I haven't been able to find any other good forums on the topic, but there is a decent subreddit for Queencity SC that hasnt been very active. P.S. I enjoy the topic as well haha Edited September 12, 2014 by MilZ
SouthEndCLT811 956 Report post Posted September 12, 2014 There's the BigSoccer forums. Within the USLPro section we have a couple threads. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/charlotte-gets-new-owners-want-to-pull-an-orlando.1999339/ http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/charlotte-usl-pro-2015.2005734/ Not much outside of what you find out on the UP though. Maybe I'll see some of you there on the 17th ready to join the supporter's group!

Niner National 830 Report post Posted September 13, 2014 http://cmhpf.org/140527%20-%20CHLM.pdf barf. If they have to remove seating, they should also raise the field so there isn't a 20 foot drop between the first row and the playing surface.
rugger62 59 Report post Posted September 16, 2014 barf. If they have to remove seating, they should also raise the field so there isn't a 20 foot drop between the first row and the playing surface. I don't know, it's a cheap and easy fix to the problem. Losing 3500 seats puts capacity at what, 14000? Are they still going to play big HS football games here? MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I don't know, it's a cheap and easy fix to the problem. Losing 3500 seats puts capacity at what, 14000? Are they still going to play big HS football games here? From the presentations a few years back, the goal with all renovations was to keep the current events and add new ones. I think this plan is a variation of one of those options, so I'd expect all the football games, band competitions, etc. to remain. My main concern is that if they use a turf field, as has been indicated, would the design include permanent lines for soccer, lax, and football all on one print? it will probably look pretty busy. Most of these questions will probably be answered tomorrow though at Hooligans. Edited September 16, 2014 by MilZ

MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 17, 2014 Well the supporters group will be the "Charlotte Horsemen". https://twitter.com/crowntownsoccer/status/512251617643872256 lol... could have been something better, but I'll be one. #CYOJ
Madison Parkitect 1754 Report post Posted September 17, 2014 I'm fine with Horsemen. The guys on cavalry are always the heroes, and that could be a good Halloween scene if all the supporters are walking around headless at the games.

At the very least WHY didn't they consider something like this:
New Name 72 Report post Posted September 17, 2014 Is the green (non rendered?) part outside of the seats getting a concourse or anything? Any other building other than inside the bowl?
MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 17, 2014 I don't really mind the "tiers" in the wall, outside of the fact that the corner is 2 floors high. It is an interesting look, and maybe the most affordable solution.
SouthEndCLT811 956 Report post Posted September 17, 2014 At Hooligans, $50 season ticket deposit and $30 supporter membership fee for those still on their way. Giving out a scarf for signing up though!
MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 18, 2014 McPhilliamy said that capacity would be ~13400 after field widening. If I understood correctly, the widening process will begin in November after the current renovations end.
MilZ 282 Report post Posted September 24, 2014 http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/queen_city_agenda/2014/09/investors-get-a-kick-out-of-independence.html So renovations will begin as soon as they can figure out how to finance ~$4mil between the team and county. Hopefully they will be complete in time for kickoff. And 600+ season ticket deposits already... Not bad.
tozmervo 8376 Report post Posted September 24, 2014 so with that article i feel comfortable disclosing that not only is the firm i work for been doing the proposal design work, but i'm the one that did the study images of the stadium that were posted a couple pages ago
ES Charlotte 135 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Are they already sold out of season tickets that aren't General Admission? I just checked on ticket master and that seems to be the case.
MilZ 282 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 I believe they are just taking deposits at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if the first season was all sectional general admission considering they are still not sure if Memorial Stadium will be ready for the first game(s). Niner National 830 Report post Posted October 12, 2014 Does anybody own the naming rights for the stadium? Would that be up to the city to sell? I"m sure it is ultimately up to the city, but I can't imagine they'd turn down money if someone was willing to pay to have their name on the stadium.
