As a companion to all the interior shots above from yesterday's opening, here are some more from (primarily) around the exterior:

First is a shot from the elevator lobby on the 33rd floor looking NW:

Looking NE from a bay window on the convention level:

Drop off area in front of the lobby. Nice wood work in ceiling.

Lots of marble trim allover the place.  

Looking south along 8th Ave. South from corner with Demonbreun:

 

Looking west along Demonbreun near corner with 8th Ave. South:

A mini plaza along Demonbreun.  A lot of black marble imbedded in sidewalk with quotes from famous leaders etched in.

 

I'm guessing this bench will eventually be covered in black marble. 

 

This street activation at the corner of 8th Ave. South and Clark Place will eventually be another restaurant/bar.

When it comes to star rating, or just quality, would this rank towards the higher end in Nashville? How do these hotels compare to something like The Westin or Omni?

Just guessing but I would say comparable to Omni.

It’ll have to be rated before we know what star quality it is, but I would agree with @japan. If I’m not mistaken @BnaBreaker knows a bit more than I do about the star rating process though.

In a Tennessean article showcasing the new JW Marriott, Jeffrey Soffer of Turnberry Associates, the primary person behind the hotel, says that the adjacent fenced lawn will open for guests and events as a private park in the short term. He plans to eventually erect a second tower on the nearly one-acre site.

I am a budget traveler, so I will never pay those prices. That's one of the reason I have not gotten to NYC or San Fran is because of out of sight prices.

I guess weather makes a big difference because Sept is a bit more "reasonably" priced than Oct.

You can book Dec 31 for $529. Or just stay there around Christmas for only $273

Takes a lot of stays at budget hotels to get a free room.  I drive when I travel, so no airline miles either. I am just a cheap guy and sometimes its a backpacking trip and camping. No Glamping for me either.

@smeagolsfree: Last time I was in NYC, I paid less for a random Summer weekend at a Hilton Garden Inn than I would have for the same hotel on the same days in Nashville. I think you'd be surprised at the prices up there.

You just gotta look hard and use sites like Priceline and Hotwire. We stayed at the courtyard in midtown Manhattan in October for $107/night.

Thanks, I will look when I plan on going up there. The problem is I do not like to fly and that is a place I don't want to drive either. Sort of a paradox. I want to get up to Boston as I have not been there but I was in NYC back in 86.

Drive to Richmond or DC and take Amtrak. Last year I took it from Boston to NYC.

You know, seen from that angle it seems we might have a new complement to the Batman building...

I always thought that this prop was hilarious back in the 80s when I was watching this show as a kid; to me, it totally looked like my sisters “banana clips” that she used for her hair (which were popular at that time.) I would put one on my head over my eyes pretending to be that character.[emoji13]

Airbnb is a lifesaver. I booked a room on the beach near Charleston, SC for $75 per night. Adjacent hotels were upwards of $250 per night.
