I did a major eye-roll at those lines, because the bland, uninspired design of the hotel exterior does NOTHING to reflect Nashville, Music Row, entertainment, inspiration, originality or creativity.

This pile of brown bricks could just as easily be sitting off an interstate exit in Kansas instead of at the entrance to an iconic Nashville neighborhood known for its music.

Wish we were getting a better design (being that it's Branson)...but at least we're getting something decent to somewhat make up for tearing down the antebellum mansion.

I work in the Round About Plaza and we received this email this morning:

We got word that the city will begin blasting for the Virgin Hotel across the street this Monday 8/7 from 9am-3pm.  Unfortunately, they could not provide me any additional specifics.

 

A company called VCE will be conducting an inspection in the Roundabout this Thursday which they need to do in all surrounding buildings.

Welcome aboard!  Let us know if you hear anything on the Musica Fountains.  WKRN was stating they will start construction in November...but it seems they are the only ones who have stated this.

Oh, the irony. The Virgin name remains particularly appropriate as long as the lot sits...empty.

The antebellum mansion was a longtime beauty spot which will never exist again. Another big loss was the block containing the art galleries, J J's, the Noshville and the nice old house, apparently for a project that is not going forward. We should consider carefully before we go down the path Houston took which has resulted in a city without a heritage and mile after mile of end to end strip malls interspersed with artificial, cooky-cutter enclaves, a town with a disjointed appearance. Of course one can drive downtown and admire the impressive and stylish towers. And there is the Woodlands oasis giving some relief in a vast wasteland. But couldn't Nashville take some lessons in historic preservation from, say, San Antonio, Galveston, or maybe Chattanooga? I will say that I think almost every Downtown, Sobro, and Gulch development has improved on what went before, and I like very much the Dream Hotel and James Robertson historic preservation projects, but the bottom line is that heritage discarded never comes again. And this town depends on its looks to attract the visitors who create the vibrancy and prosperity we are currently enjoying.
