Virgin Hotel on Music Row, 15 stories, 262 rooms, music club

The Renaissance Center's problem is that it's very separated (indeed, cut off) from the city it is built in, like it is its own self-contained city. The opposite of what Detroit needed then, or what most any city needs now.

unfortunately, that's precisely what they were going for... and precisely how it came out.

From the Tennessean...

D.F. Chase was also picked as general contractor for the 240-room Virgin Hotels Nashville planned on Music Row. David Chase, lead developer of that hotel and also an executive with D.F.Chase,faces ongoing legal issues related to allegations of domestic assault.

WTH?? DF Chase has minimal experience with hospitality projects (A couple of Gaylord properties) and zero experience with anything  urban ...

I am very surprised that this company has landed the 2 most high-profile hospitality projects since the Omni.

I actually can't imagine what an appropriate design for Music Row would look like.  There really is no concept on the Row...other than the old bungalows.  What do you think would look appropriate for a Virgin Hotel on that corner?

Something more classic looking. Brick or limestone. It can incorporate glass, don't get me wrong, but something like the NYC one just wouldn't fit anything about the surrounding area. Especially when you consider the materials that Skyhouse, less than 500' away, will be made of
