Seriously? Green Day cafe isn't even that hardcore. Yes, they serve actual spring mix vs iceberg lettuce with no nutritional value, and yes they are eco friendly. But is it that stuff really that foreign to you? Do you feel like a "dirty hippy" when you eat at Chipotle too?

 

I don't understand why eating semi "healthy" unprocessed foods and trying to deal with the consequences of consumption is considered such a novelty.

 

There was a bit of tongue in cheek going on in my post, so you can relax.  I recycle, carry my Tervis most of the time, I'm converting some of my lighting to LED (I started doing CFL many years ago, but quickly realized that wasn't the solution) as it goes out, blah blah blah.

 

That said... I'm still not sold on the concept of organic foods.  I am all for treating the planet a little better, but are $6 tomatoes really THAT much better for me than $1.50 tomatoes?  It's mostly just the holier-than-thou approach a lot of that crowd use that makes it unappealing to me.

Is the Lake Ivanhoe area, where the artsy-fartsy antique district is located, considered Uptown?

 

I love that area and some of the establishments on that part of Orange Ave just south of Princeton....any plans on making that area more pedestrian friendly (like widening sidewalks)? Not sure why there aren't taller buildings over there...is there a zoning issue? Or is Florida Hospital (Adventist Health) waiting for the area to fall apart so they can buy it all and create more hospital beds and employee housing? I feel bad for that Panera Bread further up the street...hardly ever see people in there. If there were more storefronts and dining/entertainment options leading up to that area, perhaps people would venture up there...hope Florida Hospital does something for the neighborhood with all that property they own on north Orange Ave.

Some people might be a little preachy, but you just do what you can bc it's not about other people. If I were to spritz your tomatoes with pesticide right before you ate them - I doubt I could pay you to eat them... but you probably don't think twice about eating conventional produce from the grocery store. It seems more people are comfortable with not thinking about the truth until it becomes a breaking news expose on 20/20; which then leads to mainstream acceptance. If you ever get curious, there's a website called "What's on my food".

 

Anyway if Green Day Cafe gave you the hoodoo voodoo, I think Dandelion Communitea would make your head explode :shok:  lol

I for one am excited to have the time of my life trying their "Eggs in a Basket Case" or perhaps the "Brain Stew".

All jokes aside, I don't know how'll they'll survive selling $8 sandwiches. Citrus does well because it's highend and has a better margin.

But since I work nearby, I'll give it a shot when I come around.

Plenty of $8 sandwich places, so that really isn't a factor.

Margin is low with the kinds of ingredients they'll be using, so volume will have to be through the roof for them most days of the week. With Citrus owing the lunch scene there, Shin also open for lunch next door, and a gastropubby tavern about to open in NORA, I just hope Green Day can find enough business to stay open in such a crowded field.

Sevens is in for permits and has been for a month. Based on previous projects, they should break ground next year! I kid, but permitting takes a long time. 

So...what is the reasonable time frame for The Sevens?  I thought they were getting ready to break ground very soon.

Don't ask me, ask the City. From what I understand, it is hard to predict how long it will take. They are very backed up in the permitting department.

It doesn't have a start date, but says estimated completion is May 2016.

 

That's really exciting news. Amazing how different that area looks now. Just a few years ago, it was mostly empty lots. It's almost completely filled now with residential units. I have to think that more retail can't be too far behind.
