New Hotels in/around Uptown

On the topic of stalled hotels.  Is their any sort of update on the Moxy Hotel?  Is it officially canceled or still technically stalled?

I know it is for sure stalled out and not sure if it will happen.

I believe their site will be on the market this year, It's dead.

Seriously though, I would like to someday see a Moxy in Charlotte. They are pretty nice and actually think it would fit south end quite nicely. It’s a nicer aloft hotel and would match the party vibes of it’s surroundings. At least it didn’t start construction yet. Glad that the stonewall and Ellis hotels got back on track. Those were more important imo since construction had already started. Just waiting on the theater hotel. I’d imagine with all the momentum in south end around that area that the vantage hotel above the parking garage picks up steam again too.

Just an opinion here, but I think the Moxy brand is already looking tired / trying too hard. Giant Connect Four, French bull dogs, mismatched chairs, cow prints, the "country/shabby chic" meets "modern" designs, et... it just looks busy and confused about who it wants to be.

Totally agree, I'm always surprised people still go for this kind of branding in 2022.

I mean that's kind of on brand for millennials and Charlotte in general right now especially that last sentence.

The competing names that go for that "chic contemporary cool for millennials" look also look bad, largely because the companies saw it as an excuse to use cheap crappy finishes. (Look at you, Home2Suites and  Even)

I’m assuming it aims to be perceived as fun, a bit tacky and chaotic from what I gather in the renderings and furnishing. It’s interesting to say the least.

My 86 year old mom liked her stay at the Home2Suites RTP even if the lobby was hip.  The room was spacious and with a full kitchen it was all we needed.   I think Moxy is more like the Aloft which has a pool table in their lobby.

Location is a little peculiar right now but I know long term though this location will be an absolute gold mine. I mean think about how lonely the residence inn was in third ward when nothing was over there and now it’s one of the most prime. More street activity should help in that area for sure. CTC redevelopment is going to be crucial for that entire area. That alone could be a crucial catalyst to jumpstart that area and ensure the success of a revamped epicentre as well. But kudos to Moxy for for sticking with that location. Overall, will be a great location for ppl staying for arena events.
