Alamance County reminds me of what Benjamin Franklin said about New Jersey it is a barrel tapped at both ends.   Greensboro moving eastward and Raleigh Durham moving westward as Mebane is suburb somewhat of higher priced Orange County and Chapel Hill and Durham.  And Alamance County is home to many commuters heading to Guilford County.  It would be interesting to see the commuting data and see how many Alamance County residents go west to Guilford or east to Orange and Durham counties.  Plus Alamance has lots of jobs in its own right.

on a personal note my grandmother was born in Saxapahaw in lower Alamance upper Chatham area  (UCLA area)  and the family then moved to Greensboro due to larger textile mills.

Surprisingly Alamance sends a significant amount of commuters to Wake County as well. If Raleigh and Durham combine as a MSA there may be enough commuters from Alamance to the new Raleigh Durham MSA core counties to shift Alamance to the new MSA.

Thermo Fisher Scientific made it official late Friday afternoon and provided two new dimensions to the previously-reported news that the company has selected Mebane as a site for a new manufacturing facility, as first reported in The Alamance News earlier this month.

As previously reported, Thermo Fisher Scientific is planning to occupy a 375,000-square-foot facility that is now under construction by the development company Al Neyer on the eastern edge of Mebane – across the county line in western Orange County on the southeast corner of Buckhorn and West Ten roads in what is emerging to be what Orange County officials are terming a Buckhorn Industrial Park.

The area is also home to a huge, new 1.2 million square foot Medline distribution center which appears to be nearing completion, and Mebane city council members recently approved another nearby project, also being built by Al Neyer, that will bring another almost 1 million square feet of warehouse space to the Buckhorn Road area.

The new dimensions are that the company will invest $192.5 million in the endeavor, as well as the employment impact of the selection of the Mebane site.

Construction on new homes and townhomes might soon get underway in Graham.

The recent approval by the Graham City Council for the rezoning of land on East Gilbreath Street allows for nearly 120 homes and up to 46 townhomes.

At a time when Graham is growing and in need of more housing, Graham Councilmember Jennifer Talley expressed excitement for the project at a meeting held last week.

“I just want to say this is a huge win for Graham and I'm super excited that the staff has really taken a lot of time and dedication to redoing this project with the developer,” Talley said.

Graham is a community that is growing, says Talley, "and we want to have quality development and quality developers to come in here, so I greatly appreciate the time and effort and I know the money that went into redoing this project."

Burlington’s city council has given an out-of-town developer the all-clear to construct 252 apartments along Bonnar Bridge Parkway – a road that also serves as the primary entrance into the sprawling Mackintosh on Lake subdivision.

During a regularly-scheduled meeting on Tuesday, the council unanimously agreed to let Wilmington-based Zimmer Development establish this new apartment complex on some 15.69 acres situated near Bonnar Bridge Parkway’s juncture with Danbrook Road.

Dubbed the “Bonnar Bridge Apartments,” this rental development is slated to comprise seven three-to-four story buildings that will contain the proposed dwelling units. The development’s plans also call for a clubhouse and pool, a walking trail, nearly 400 parking spaces, a dog park, and various other amenities.
