Richmond "Weekly" Construction Updates

Here’s a couple from the past few weeks. The skyline approaching from the east should look a lot different in a couple years

I’m really liking the one on Oliver Hill Way. (Or is if 18th street?).  It already looks like it has been there for 80 years.

Agreed. I was surprised how good it looked and that area seems to have just been a dead zone as long as I have lived here.

I go past it constantly as that is the way from my house to downtown.  I'm surprised at how well it turned out.

Now only if they would repave Oliver Hill Way.  It is one of the worst roads to drive down.

The Oliver Hill development completely slipped past my radar and caught me off guard with how good it looks in that photo

Georgeglass - these are FANTASTIC!! Thanks so much for taking and posting these! Holy wow - I second eandslee - please post more any time you can.

SOOO good to see these projects getting closer to the finish line. Richmond is starting to grow up.

NOW... we need to get a few more of the big projects that have been proposed, announced, approved, etc., to get underway before these wrap up. Consider that the VCU Outpatient building (and for that matter, I believe the General Assembly building) both got underway BEFORE the new Dominion building was completed. Would re really cool to keep an unbroken chain of momentum going.

These aren't great pics, but I took them while driving down Broad the other day. The first set are of the development on the UMFS property and the last pic is the old Quality Inn at the edge of Scott's Addition.

Wonder if they are getting ready to start tearing down the quality inn for the new 12 story building? I really can’t wait to watch that one get under way.

Has there been any movement on that? Has the footprint on the Marshall Street side been cleared? Curious to know if the 12-story component is still absolutely on the table, in process or if it has slipped into that nebulous "waiting" limbo.

What about on the footprint of the tower itself? Any movement on that yet or is it still off in that etherial "sometime in the future" time frame?

I don’t think anything has happened on the “tower” yet.   The area for it has been used as a staging area for the parking garage construction.  With that wrapping up they should be starting soon, I would think.

The tower footprint has been the staging area for the parking deck.  That deck is a lot larger (deep) than I imaged so they may still be working on it even though it looks built from the street.
