Founders Brewing Company Expansions

GRDad's post got me looking for a set of photos I've gone back to a number of times that a local photographer took of the truck depot, before any of the clean-up began.  It's truly remarkable the transformation. Unfortunately, I couldn't find them. :(

But I did find this cool drone photo by local photographer Rudy Malmquist (https://www.flickr.com/photos/rudymalmquist/)

I have pics of the original building circa 1993 (as the arena was being built). I'll try to dig them up. Anyone remember when Azzar wanted to put up a really suburban apartment complex? Or was it Joseph Moch? Either way, glad Founders took the spot.

Joe

It was Moch. Project was proposed for 248 Williams St, and I seem to recall it had a big green roof on it. So awful. No images in the thread:

This is a fun walk down memory lane:

HO.LY..COW. This is like finding an early video of the Coors family starting up ;)

Here are some photos of your favorite truck depot Nitro:

There's no way it's Cottage Bar. designcritic said "warmer", not "hot".  :D I doubt it would even be a restaurant, because that depot is pretty large (maybe 10,000 square feet). I'll bet it's office use. Is Bazzani moving? No, that wouldn't explain the "less Joe, more John". What companies downtown are headed by a John?

I think this may be the Photo Set from the truck depot that I was searching for, however, it appears Brad Gillette has removed it from his Flickr account.  :ermm:

Oh, those were Brad's? Reach out to him, see if he still has them?

I'm sure he still has them, but there was obviously a reason he removed them from his Flickr account.  Maybe he has them posted elsewhere.  I'll reach out if I get a chance.

Heh.

The brewery is in the middle of a $40 million expansion project that includes construction of a seven-story steel frame to house new 1,550-barrel fermenters, which are six stories tall. The new brewhouse produces 300 barrels per batch, likely the largest of any craft brewery in the nation.

Interesting. I didn't realize that All Day IPA was such a big chunk of their sales.

Founders’ All Day IPA is leading the charge into new markets and makes up approximately 40 percent of the brewery’s sales. The beer didn’t exist a few years ago, and was created at a fortunate time when session beer wasn’t a category

All Day IPA had a previous life as Endurance IPA only available in the taproom but once the canning line was up and running and the session beer market started gaining momentum, sales just exploded. I feel like at an average summer BBQ you are just as likely to see cans of All Day as you are to see cans of Bud Light.

  • 2 weeks later...

Those appear to be garage doors on the front windows. Will probably open up to the street in the summer.

They've apparently been open since before Christmas.
