I like those. Can't say I like any of the winners. Seems like a bunch of people uploaded photos that are either way outdated or taken from a phone.

Why hold a contest? They could just use Matt Robinson's photos. Or James Willamore's. Or that other guy who's a professional photographer for the city... forget his name.

I'm a fan of your second link. Unconventional angle. I would have gone so far as to say entries within say 100 feet of south Saunders St are not eligible to win, to hopefully stir up more original thinking. The Chavis angle is good, and I also like the south Wilmington shot (didn't see it on here)

I just wish RedHat would have inclosed the back side of their sign.

Food for thought... if the City of Raleigh had made a skyline view from the East side as their "official skyline photo" do you think that would have pushed Red Hat to maybe go back and finish the rooftop screen wall on the East side???

Hmmm...

On my strolls home from work I usually imagine a fully built out warehouse district and how much fun it would/could be. My musings almost always include replica 1920's office buildings such as the Professional Building. The scale, composition and style all would work well in the area. Sullivanesque I believe is the style. I would of course advocate for recreating one of our lost buildings from this era, Citizens Bank, Commercial Bank, (both from the teens actually) The Carolina Hotel or the recently lost Lawyers Building. Hell, if I win the lottery, I'll rebuild all four in the warehouse district. I realize this is a skyline thread, but from this view you'll hopefully be able to see the gas lights I have installed all over the warehouse district (I have a whole streetscape mapped out actually with cobble stoning the whole area with brick pedestrian side walks, weird steel art that reflects the rail road history and stormwater capturing rain gardens all over that just feel like nice street plantings to people)

They light the spire for home games and then do a strobe effect for each goal they score for 10ish seconds and then for two minutes if they win.  The are the worst team in the league this season, so don't expect to see the post-game light up too often.

I don't normally advocate for such things, but the downtown First Citizens building really needs to be torn down and replaced with something better. A taller building in that spot would really fill out the skyline to the north. Also, while not exactly architecturally stunning, the Residence Inn will help fill out the south end from this particular vantage point.
