Ascent Uptown - 33 stories (3rd and Poplar)

Its finally coming together for me after fearing this was a huge bait-and-switch. Still an odd color choice and less elegant than the renderings, but with the blue panels filling in and not an odd mixture of white to blue I have decided I still like this overall. Hopefully they follow through on the greenery areas, as it looks like they are.

I agree. If I were to give this a grade it would be a C+. Still holding onto hope that the greenery hasn't been VE'd out. If the plants stay in the final product this thing gets a solid B.

The plants will remain surprisingly. One thing that hasn't been VEd. You can see the cutouts in the concrete for them

Yes, the Ascent is much boxier and less sleek than the Mint Museum tower. I was curious exactly how they researched developments to put together the list.  The only reason most people will choose the Ascent over the Mint Museum will be the high rents at the Mint Museum, but that certainly shouldn't qualify the Ascent for this list over the Mint.

The ascent will likely be just as expensive as the museum tower (it's not called the mint. That's a different complex)

Yes I included "museum" the first two times, but to avoid confusion shouldn't have neglected museum the third time. In the Museum Tower thread you mentioned that rents would be $3100-$6500+ for a two bedroom and there was a long discussion about who would be able to afford it.  You expect the Ascent to be that expensive as well?

Maybe not QUITE that high. But certainly very close.

So far I'm not super impressed with the garage screening. Hopefully as more is installed the scale of it all will make it look a little better.

This screening is terrible. While most parking deck screening doesn't live up to the expectations in the renderings, this is particularly bad because it's so tall. The screening is much more transparent than I expected it would be. I hope they will somehow add something to make it more opaque.

To my eyes at least, the building seems to be sticking closely to the renderings. The renderings show the opacity of the screening and you can distinctly see the concrete levels of the garage. I'm going to hold off until it's all done and hope it all pulls together. It is definitely something architecturally different for Charlotte to say the least!

Mural is underway, I really have no idea what they are going for. Seems close to the theme from the garage screening.
