Bseven37
Wow! That looks great. Really starting to come along nicely. Thanks for the pic.
ORF flyer
Progress being made. Bummed that no retail will be in the building.
carolinaboy
Those metal stud walls on the ground floor make it seem like partitions for commercial, no? Or is that because the roof heights are taller than a wooden 2 by 4?
R-123
The first floor does resemble a commercial parcel, I believe it will be the residents fitness area, pool tables, community space, etc. There has been work going on Sundays for the last couple weeks. Either they are catching up from the rainy 2 weeks we had or they have some pressure to beat the schedule.

carolinaboy
Love it. Nice infill and density addition. Scope and Chrysler Hall could use some cleaning or paint/coating.

mikeas
This building is looking pretty decent and nearing completion. Still a big failure not including retail on the first floor though.
urbanlife
It is looking like some good infill. I like that it also looks like it will have commercial space along the first floor.
ORF flyer
I was informed this week from one of the construction people there that there will be some retail space. I had thought that was no longer in play.

As far as I know the "no retail" aspect was based on conjecture. That would be a bad move, though the building looks like the first floor is designed for commercial....I wonder what they are planning on doing with the first floor? Arctic_Tern
That first floor has been one of the most vexing things on this forum as of late. I personally hope that it does have retail of some sort, but I'm not counting on it. If you look at this application filed on March 25, 2015 (http://www.norfolk.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/1490?fileID=1838 ), there is a question "Use characteristics of the proposed development, including provision for ground-floor active uses and continuity along street fronts in various Downtown Districts and provision of residential uses in applicable downtown districts" which is answered: "Mixed-use development consisting of 156 units including ground floor lofts as well as leasing offices + parking on the ground floor. These varied uses will ensure activity at all times of the day." Which I think is a kinda BS answer. A leasing office nor a parking garage is not going to keep the street front active at "All times of the day". I'm not certain if that application was approved, or if it was denied with the stipulation of retail. Popular Post ORF flyer
Slowly coming along. I would assume completion around May.
mistermetaj
Every parking lot filled in downtown is a healed wound on the soul of the city. While the scar will always be there (lots of architectural gems replaced with mediocrity) the city is recovering. These kind of developments move the goal post of the downtown limits. BFG
It looks really nice. It has more of a presence than I thought it would. Edited January 16, 2017 by BFG
BFG
This really adds a nice urban presence to that stretch of Boush Street. Has there been any word on what stores will occupy the retail space? Also...any idea on how many people live downtown now? It was 5,600 a year or so ago; I'm guessing they've crossed 6,000 since then? Edited February 22, 2017 by BFG
vdogg
I thought the retail was so scrapped?
BFG
I've heard conflicting stories. I thought the retail element was added back on?

Helium3
Are we sure that this project doesn't include retail? Because that ground floor really looks like it includes retail.
ORF flyer
No retail. There will be around 8 lofts located on the ground floor. I seen appliances going in this week. A lot of exterior work still needs to be done. I'm guessing it will be completed around June.
carolinaboy
Looks good! Perfect scale. Even if no retail, the ground floor interacts well with the street.
brikkman
Should always include a space for a little store of some kind.
