When Jyoti Sharad presented to our NA, it was more about the small grocery offerings and less about lotto tickets and cigarettes. That being said the term grocer is quite a stretch. I'm not sure what you'd call a store that sells a mix of groceries and convenience items, gro-venience?

I saw that article. "Grocer" seems like a pretty big stretch, at 1700 sf. Is Martha's Vineyard a grocer?

Rockford has always been one to exaggerate the truth. I remember when they started renovating in Heartside. They claimed that a major corporate office was moving into one of their buildings. It ended up being United Way of West Michigan.

Sometimes it's "grosser." ;)

"We received a standing ovation when we presented to the city. Standing ovation!"

I keed, I keed. It will be a nice addition to those storefronts.

And any negative polls about it were fake news... :) I think it'll do well and adds an amenity most apartments downtown don't have. Again, it's a start.

Anybody know if Rockford will have a construction camera for this project?

I'll bet @mgreven would let them put one on their roof.

Anybody know what this building used to be:

It was built in 1870 apparently. That's all I could find.

All I could find is that it was "an old brick brewery."  Couldn't find the name or anything else.  There were a bunch in the 1870-80s that opened up and either closed with a few years or merged with others.

For sure!  As long as I don't have to install it... #notahandyman

It will be fun once they get rolling.  Glad it's my wife's office and not mine, I'd just be staring out the front window all day and never get anything done.

I will have that issue with the new hotel on Monroe, my office looks right at the site

That's awesome! It's been an abandoned/boarded up building ever since I can remember.

Found it!  ...Or rather, the Valley City blogspot did.  It was the Michigan Brewery, founded by Peter Weirich in 1856.  The present building was his second on the site.  Read the whole thing, it's great work.

The top is a picture from the GR Public Museum of the Kusterer Co. City Brewery on Michigan and Ionia in 1890.  The bottom is Michigan Brewery today.  Note the similar architecture.

Awesome finds guys. It's in a bit of a rough spot and off the beaten path but everything's moving West. Not sure what it could be used for. It just catches my eye every time I drive by.

Rough spot? That's a block and a half from my house. I prefer the term, colorful.:D
