Massive Highland Row development underway

The vast expanse of cleared out land at the corner of Highland Street and Midland Avenue will soon begin to take the shape of a $58 million mixed-use project.

Highland Row is a co-development between Indiana-based Milhaus Development LLC and Memphis-based Poag Shopping Centers LLC. The plan includes 32,000 square feet of retail space, 354 apartment homes, a 511-space parking garage and land for 35 townhomes. Poag will handle the retail side of the project and Milhaus will focus on the residential aspect.

Excavation work is underway, and a $10 million building permit was filed this week to start construction.

Not a fan of the streetside parking lot, but that aside this should bring some positive improvements to the area. I was just out there recently for the first time in about 10 years and the area already looks alot different from my U of M days.
