Scores of New Hotels for Downtown Richmond

There is ample demand for new hotel development in downtown Richmond. There are additional flags looking for sites downtown in addition to what has been publicized. Stalled projects are not always about developer capability or market demand. Sometimes there are other frustrating factors.

Ok.  I’ll keep the faith in them :)

Aren’t they the ones behind the farmers market hotel too?  Haven’t seen any life at that site either.

That project was / is a different developer...Louis Salomonsky. Again, he has a lot of completed projects so not sure what is going on with this one. It would be nice to see, but I can see a hotel being hesitant on this spot without being tied to another major draw and a somewhat unappealing piece of property visually at this point.

Fantastic!! That's a great location for Hyatt to have a presence -- and a beautiful building to boot.

Change of plans!  Douglas Development is now planning on turning the DEQ building into apartments.

Mixed feelings about this one...

I was hoping for a busy lobby scene on Main Street but with this now an apartment building, maybe the one on the canal can actually get built?   Maybe the Roxy can actually become a thing? Nah.  The Roxy  is never going to be a thing.

The Roxy, no, but the Moxy, yes. :tw_sweat_smile:

KM Hotels is having to put a hold on the planned AC Hotel by the canal, as well as the planned dual branded hotel near Altria's campus.   Seems they'd still like to move forward with the projects, but are having to hold off because of the pandemic.

I'm just glad it was brought up - I've reset all hotel expectations to zero so even the mention here of a delay is encouraging. Now if we can get an update about Shamin's projects I'd love to know whether the Moxy will open this decade or next. The signs across from Penny Lane pub are already worn.
