I must say I wasn't expecting the hotel to be this tall. I was thinking 4 stories max. Looks like its 7-stories This project is a done deal. CN Hotels purchased the site in December and recently applied for a building permit. The hotel will be built within the same block of the Carolina Theatre on Greene St just one block west of South Elm St. You can see the General Greene Statue in the traffic circle in the foreground.

Opening date is set for 1st quarter of 2017 , around the time of the opening of the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.

Plans for a fourth downtown hotel are underway. Not sure if the Hampton Inn and Suites flag has changed but Greensboro based CN Hotels had planned a Hampton Inn and Suites on the site. The company is currently building one in downtown Winston-Salem.

If built, downtown Greensboro would then have a total of 6 hotels.

Marriott Downtown
Biltmore Greensboro
Hyatt Place
Westin Greensboro
Aloft Greensboro
Hampton Inn & Suites.

It's official CN Hotels will begin construction on a Hampton Inn & Suites at the corner of McGee and South Greene Streets in downtown Greensboro.

The site was once eyed for a Hampton Inn more than a decade ago by a Greenville, SC developer. But at the time the developer wanted the city to build a deck for the hotel and demand wasn't high for a new city deck. In this case Greensboro based CN Hotels will build its own parking structure. CN currently has a Hampton Inn under construction in downtown Winston-Salem.

Two other hotels are under development in downtown Greensboro. The Hyatt Place is almost complete and site work is currently being done for the Westin Greensboro and parking deck.

A fourth hotel (Aloft) will likely be delayed because of plan changes with Roy Carroll's planned mixed use development which will include office and residential.

With all the new hotels opening downtown the article also hints some sort of convention space may be slated for the News and Record property across the street from the future Westin Hotel. The depot/Amtrak station is also south of the News and Record property which makes it an excellent site for a small convention center.
