cityboi
I must say I wasn't expecting the hotel to be this tall. I was thinking 4 stories max. Looks like its 7-stories This project is a done deal. CN Hotels purchased the site in December and recently applied for a building permit. The hotel will be built within the same block of the Carolina Theatre on Greene St just one block west of South Elm St. You can see the General Greene Statue in the traffic circle in the foreground. Opening date is set for 1st quarter of 2017 , around the time of the opening of the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. link http://www.cnhotels.net/development.html Edited March 18, 2015 by cityboi

DCB
Nice! And yes, from what I can tell it's going to occupy the L-shaped parking lot around the Exchange building, but not including it, since they don't own it.
cityboi
Plans for a fourth downtown hotel are underway. Not sure if the Hampton Inn and Suites flag has changed but Greensboro based CN Hotels had planned a Hampton Inn and Suites on the site. The company is currently building one in downtown Winston-Salem. If built, downtown Greensboro would then have a total of 6 hotels. cityboi
Pay wall article. Looks like construction will soon begin on a third downtown hotel. Site work begins on the planned Hampton Inn and Suites downtown https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2018/07/20/site-work-begins-on-under-the-radar-triad-downtown.html site work on the future Hampton Inn and Suites Edited July 21, 2018 by cityboi
cityboi
It's official CN Hotels will begin construction on a Hampton Inn & Suites at the corner of McGee and South Greene Streets in downtown Greensboro. The site was once eyed for a Hampton Inn more than a decade ago by a Greenville, SC developer. But at the time the developer wanted the city to build a deck for the hotel and demand wasn't high for a new city deck. In this case Greensboro based CN Hotels will build its own parking structure. CN currently has a Hampton Inn under construction in downtown Winston-Salem. Two other hotels are under development in downtown Greensboro. The Hyatt Place is almost complete and site work is currently being done for the Westin Greensboro and parking deck. A fourth hotel (Aloft) will likely be delayed because of plan changes with Roy Carroll's planned mixed use development which will include office and residential. With all the new hotels opening downtown the article also hints some sort of convention space may be slated for the News and Record property across the street from the future Westin Hotel. The depot/Amtrak station is also south of the News and Record property which makes it an excellent site for a small convention center. https://www.greensboro.com/business/local_business/local-hotel-builder-plans-downtown-hampton-inn-and-suites/article_ab913891-21a0-5b67-bdef-aa78237b5246.html Edited July 23, 2018 by cityboi
Popular Post cityboi
Foundation work. Many thought the Hampton Inn and Suites would never happened because no one talked about it like the Westin and other hotels going up downtown. But then construction quietly began on it. Unlike the Westin and planned Aloft, the hotel developer will be building its own parking structure next to the hotel instead of the city building it. Popular Post cityboi
Beam rises to the 7th floor. The hotel will be 8 stories tall because the section above the 7th floor that will have the signage will be a story tall. The statue of General Greene, the city's namesake, stands majestically in the middle of the roundabout.
