I guess I never really think of San Antonio as a tourist destination. It's certainly not on the top 10 or 20 list of places myself or anyone I know would want to visit (not because it's a bad city, but it's nothing special).

San Antonio also has Six Flags Fiesta Texas, a theme park originally built by those skunks at Gaylord who stupidly razed Nashville's Opryland in favor of a shopping mall.

It also has the massive Schlitterbahn Waterpark just up the way in New Braunfels

Fiesta Texas was originally a joint project of Gaylord and USAA Insurance company, which is HQd in San Antone.

The Portion of the property on the West side of 10th North (Grand Hyatt and AEG) is now empty (contractors that had subleased the space have vacated). Expect demo/construction to begin shorty. The remaining Lifeway employees are on the clock with sub-50 days to be completely moved to new HQ.

Per my contact -" it will be a Grand Hyatt or a Park Hyatt. The hotel will be THE destination hotel for luxury in Nashville." His information has been spot on over the last 2 years...including taking down the 'cross' tower and the art deco building... of course until an official announcement it is speculation.

It would suck to lose the Sullivan Tower, but I'd love a good implosion of the high-rise old Lifeway campus.

Grand Hyatt is possible but Park Hyatt might be a stretch. However if they're trying to redefine luxury in Nashville then Park Hyatt is the winner-winner chicken dinner!

From today's Nashville Post:

San Diego-based Southwest Value Partners and Dimension Development of Louisiana have landed a permit related to their 591-room Hyatt Regency hotel that will be located on the northwest corner of intersection of Broadway and 10th Avenue.

The permit will allow for the demolition of the non-descript building last home to a LifeWay bookstore.

D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. will handle the job, with the permit valued at $4,000.

A January groundbreaking and a spring 2020 completion are eyed for the hotel project.

If operational today, the 23-story Hyatt (pictured) would be the third-largest hotel in Nashville and offer the second-largest meeting space in the city, with more than 65,000 square feet of flexible, mixed-use banquet and conference room facilities.

The hotel building will be the first of potentially up to 11 structures to be located on the site SWVP is branding as Nashville Yards.

The project’s master plan calls for more than 4 million square feet spanning various buildings to accommodate retail, hospitality, office, residential and entertainment uses.

I did text my Lifeway contact again and he replied "Grand Hyatt. Very upscale. Will be the best hotel in the city"

Not the greatest design if it's going to be a Grand.  Guessing the inside will look WAY better than the outside.

Yep, the L-shaped box on hat-box is really cliche now.  If you want your building to blend in, virtually unnoticed with the others, that's the way to do it.

I completely understand the reasoning behind the L shape, since hotels generally require every room to have windows and the L shape is just the easiest and cheapest way to do that, but it does get a little repetitive. It makes the design of the JWM even more awesome when you think about how unorthodox it is for Nashville hotels.

Walking 10th north to Broadway is like running a gauntlet.....both sidewalks are closed down?!@

There are images up on the fences! I just drove by a minute ago and was in the car or would have snapped a picture.

BTW - it clearly says “Hyatt Regency.” Not Hyatt Grand.

Hope they do more than just paint the building.  It really needs a "demo and start over."
