Dominion Resources: New High-rise Building Planned for Downtown

There is a lot of prep work going on in the streets around the Plaza building.  Looks like mostly utility prep - digging holes in the street, doing something, then patching them up and moving on.  The fence was installed around the staging area (surface lots directly west) and the trailers are there.  Over the past week, a lot of work was done at the south east corner where the old rail tracks run into the building.

The existing utilities have be disconnected prior to demolition.  Is anyone familiar with the sequence of demolition beyond the utility disconnections?

It is my understanding that the barriers will go up and demo will begin next week.

Here is the staging area - notice the new light poles put in....

Well, they're only about a month late on the demo, so I hope they start making some dust fly next week!  So looking forward to it!  Great pics, by the way!  Thanks for posting the photo update!

Its looking the same from the outside at this point.  A lot of noise from the inside, and street prep (like ripping up the sidewalks and tree wells).

Thanks for the update. Sounds like they're demo-ing the inside first in prep for the wrecking ball. Keep us abreast of the goings on over there. Thanks again!

What do you think of this angle?  A new view from an article at CBS 6.

I like it...just wish it were taller, but for sure it's going to need the second tower to make everything look even. It appears to be taller than the Fed despite how much closer the Fed is with respect to the photographer.  It'll be different but that's what Richmond needs!  Can wait to see a crane in the sky again!  In 2017, we should see quite a few cranes in the sky around downtown!

Height is too much from this angle then it needs to be turned slightly counter-clockwise.  Damn I wish it were taller with that exact design.
