Dominion Resources: New High-rise Building Planned for Downtown

Many of us were concerned on how the massing of this tower would appear in the skyline.  The tapering crown gives the tower a more balanced look.  Our "fat lady" looks gorgeous.

It will be interesting to see how this space takes shape when the second tower is built. It appears that the two towers will enclose this space, almost creating an above-street-level courtyard. I'm wondering if a pedestrian bridge above the street will connect these spaces?

An architectural review from Style Weekly. The only point of criticism is the Cary Street side which is fronted by the parking garage. This has been a problem with several of the new buildings which seem to turn Cary Street into a back alley, taking away and chance of vibrancy in the future.

He immediately lost credibility with me when, in the first sentence of this piece, he says the tower has 29 stories when it actually only has 20 stories.   After he goofed that up, it didn’t matter what else was written after that.

Are they starting demo soon?

Heres what’s happening on Cary at the moment...

Are there employees in there,  if not,  this may come as a surprise.  Anyone know how to check for demo permits? I've seen nothing on the new building out there as far as drawings,  budgets, etc. so I'd be surprised.

Dude, it's full of employees.  No demo happening anytime soon.

It is not full of employees.  Final phase of employee relocation happened the last week of August.  Employees were allowed to still come and go as necessary (grab stuff left behind for example) but a couple weeks ago there was an official notice that employees not associated with the processes around what comes next for the building are not allowed.

How about that!  My sincere apologies.  I was just going off the fact that the lights are all still on at night.  What do they do over there, make electricity?

They have gerbils running on wheels powering the building.
