Thinking more, they must rely 100% on watering given the location. That'll cost a bit.

If they tried to do it in Charlotte, it would have to be something local that is hardy enough to handle the extremes. I don't think the types of plants that would be suited for the vertical gardens are around here. Those are likely a bit more tropical.

They could add trellises and plant honeysuckle everywhere. They are dense and hardy. And are beautiful and smell amazing when flowering.

I have said this many times.  Put a huge carousel in First Ward park and surround it with  either a "scottish village" or old mecklenburg village.  Don't tell me it can't be done cause you can.  OKC ripped off San Antonio and built a riverwalk and it works great for their bricktown entertainment district.  Or develop an old Charlotte area.  Build replica Charlotte tavern a few other colonial area buildings.  Finish with some fountains and statues.  Charlotte wants character well resurrect the past if you have too but do something to inject some energy in to the city.

Actually the history of the Riverwalk in San Antonio is even more interesting.  You are seeing a flood control project that became world renown and it was just a ditch before they fixed it up after several floods that flooded downtown SA.  Another thing if you ever fall into the SA River in downtown just stand up you won't drown it is only 2-3 feet deep!  

Like the huge carousel idea along with a sky wheel aka ferris wheel to check out the skyline.  I am attracted to those like a moth to a lamp though I have never been on the Myrtle Beach one though.

That would be fantastic. Having a sky wheel and carousel together would be a huge plus for uptown.

The sky wheel in Myrtle is actually amazing. You don't realize how truly tall it is until you're in it. Just another thing of culture that Myrtle has that Charlotte doesn't.

I have been on the one in Vegas, Hong Kong and soon in few weeks the new one in Orlando which is 400 feet tall on International Drive.  Imagine the view of the skyline from one in 1st ward or Brooklyn redevelopment.  every conventioneer would want to go on it unless they are scared of heights.  As @tarhoosier came up with,  Charlotte Surprises you.  It has all my friends, my clients who have ever visited.  

I think Charlotte is a beautiful city not just saying this because I live here, was born here but because it is and  I have been to every major city in the country as a source of comparison. Our tree canopy, our skyline and yes our people (okay maybe not our drivers LOL).  Sure they are some other pretty cities but Charlotte is one of the best.  Believe me.

That is fascinating .  I read an article a bit back about how Charlotte has been a great example of buying up land likely to flood, but turning that into an attraction is next level.  Where the Cross-Charlotte Trail we are discussing in another thread intersects with greenways could be a model.  Funding is needed though.

It would be nice to have one of the big Ferris wheels like the High Roller in Vegas.  550 feet tall.  the view was great.  This would be great in the revived Brooklyn 2nd Ward.  the skyline shots would be fantastic. 

I do agree greenways are very important too as I said in another thread much more important than a freeway cap. (and much cheaper even with the city of Charlotte accounting ways)  Charlotte needs to see how Raleigh and Cary were able to build  100 miles and 70 miles respectively in both smaller cities than Charlotte.

Why haven't we ever come up with a concept to pitch to the city for a "Placemaking grant."
