Has anyone heard any news about a future park in Franklin off Carothers Pkwy south of Highway 96? I read an article about one recently but found out it was 3-4years old. It mentioned a new river access point, a greenway going along the river to downtown Franklin. I wasn't sure if Franklin had already started acquiring land for this, or construction?

Franklin owns the land and I believe a layout has been approved. Seems to be stalled for the moment though.

Local construction company Bell and Associates will break ground on a new pedestrian bridge at Shelby Park  to complete the park's pedestrian loop around Sevier Lake.

Bell announced that it will donate the construction of the bridge to Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms, a nonprofit that helps care for East Nashville’s Shelby Park and Shelby Bottoms Natural Area.

When finished, the new bridge will complete a 1-mile walking loop around Sevier Lake to safely separate park visitors on bike and on foot from vehicles on the road.

The pedestrian bridge will be built in tandem with the company’s rehabilitation of two vehicular bridges in the park.

Ok which construction company wants to donate the pedestrian bridge to connect Peeler park to the Stones River greenway over the Cumberland? Get a chance to show up these Bell folks.

That might cost a bit more haha. It would certainly be nice to have a connection to that part of town though.

 

Not really sure if a bridge around Sevier Lake really does anything that beneficial.  Maybe they could donate the funds to finish the new bridge that had Shelby Bottoms greenway out of commission for over a year. That section still isn't paved.

Thought I might share memories of Shelby Park  and Siever Lake  from some of my family photos.  The first is taken at Siever Lake  looking back towards the river just a little way down what is now Reflection Way.    The little guy of course is me in 1948.    Next, my mom and my grandparents back in 1946...the railroad trussle is behind them.  The last is my dad at the old ball fields...again the railroad  trussle is in the background.  Shelby Park was always a treat  for East Nashvillians.  My grandfather and I loved the old golf course too.  I grew up by the railroad overpass on Gallitan Pike and later on the high Coopers Creek area overlooking Cornelia Fort and Shelby Bottoms. It is a delight to see some sofhisticated improvements to this old jewel.

From NBJ: Metro's Board of Parks and Recreation approved a $500,000 overhaul of the public park atop the parking garage of the office building at 211 Commerce St. The work is a sign of a coming revamp of the tower.

A new historical plaque was just installed in Lock 2 Park. I love old stuff like this! Now if we could just restore and repurpose the old lock keeper's house...
