Gulch Greenway along the eastern side of Asurion HQ between Church Street Viaduct and Porter St.

Kudos that they rebuilt the greenway there and will reconnect it to the existing greenway segment north of Church St.      That segment now crosses Charlotte behind Capitol View up to Frankie Pierce Park.     Now if we can just connect Frankie Pierce to the Cumberland River greenway spur that ends at Bicentennial Mall, you'd be able to walk, run, bike on a greenway from the Gulch to the riverfront and all the way to Ted Rhodes golf course.      Still have the Metro fails where the greenway remains almost permanently closed through First Tennessee Park and Ascend Amphitheater, but working on that.

The Nashville Sounds, Portman Holdings (developer of Ballpark Village mixed-use), Metro Sports Authority, and Metro Council are finally all working together to get the Music City Bikeway/Greenway that runs between 5th Ave. North and 3rd Ave. North along the south side of the baseball park permanently open to the public.

It sounds like they’re constructing a whole new segment of pavement to service the new mixed use development rather than using the trail that’s already there.

Its just the path that is there is not open because the Sounds have pretty much broken the agreement to keep it open when ballgames were not happening. I guess they were getting too many vagrants roaming around inside the park and they had to keep a security guard there to keep people out of the stadium.

It was a bad plan to start with.

Agree the design flaw should have been obvious to anyone paying attention.  As we all remember, though, the stadium design and construction process was super fast tracked and if there was a voice in the room saying maybe it’s not a good idea to route a public greenway through the ballpark venue, that voice was either not heard or was dismissed.  

But a huge thanks to Freddie for dogging this and taking steps to fix it.

This is something we should all be looking forward too. If there was ever an ideal spot for another pedestrian bridge, it would be hear to connect back to the East Bank. Hastings did some design work down here (at least I presume it was here based on the description) for the boathouse portion of the park and was recognized for unbuilt work.

Agency Landscape + Planning out of Cambridge, MA seem to be the current team leading the project as they have extensive background in working on waterfront projects. Hastings, HDLA and Barge Cauthen are local partners involved on the project. Below are a couple other select images that can be found in the presentation that was referenced in the Post article. At Mayor Cooper's press conference yesterday, he spoke of more park space downtown: 

The capital spending plan approved Tuesday also includes funding for two riverfront park projects.

1) "Wharf Park" will serve a new fire station and a long-anticipated permanent supportive housing development currently expected to break ground in May 2022.

2 ) Additional funding is slated for a "sizable park in the urban core" about one mile south of Fort Nashborough past Korean Veterans Boulevard. This park will allow for a trailhead to connect to the West Bank river trail. 

This second one  is new to me.  I don't know where it could be unless he is referring to the former Greer Stadium site.  Or perhaps it is the lot on the SE corner of Lafayette and Elms Street that was going to be a future spot for a SoBro Transit Center.

Great article. So nice for this civic treasure to get this sort of national coverage from a parks trade publication. I would, however, take issue with their claim that Centennial Park and the Parthenon are second only to the country music scene as a source of attraction of visitors to Nashville. When visitors find the park they love it, but does anybody plan a trip to Nashville to tour the Parthenon? (Well, perhaps there are some Greek Geeks who would…not so many ordinary tourists.)

I could see some people planning a local trip around it. The same reason you’d go to St. Louis to see the arch, or the Biltmore in Asheville. The Parthenon is obviously a smaller scale, but it’s notable.
