Update on the Hawk

Also the former Design within Reach is being gutted...looks like it’s a Fifth Third Bank [emoji58]

The parking deck fronting the rail trail at the corner of Tremont and Camden is getting a mural

^^^Yes it is becoming a 5/3 bank branch right next to the 23 story Lowes tower on Camden.

The Lowes tower and they were working late and the Hawk rising.  This evening.

The Hawk is rising up well like a hawk in flight.  Today.   Up to 6th floor today.

This building was literally just announced and nearly halfway vertical. Lol well I guess it is only a small amount of units.

Being poured off site in optimal condition in a form in an assembly line, then cured, trucked in and hoisted into place. Way faster then building forms over and over on site.

Why. Can’t they do that with more buildings? Expense?

Overtime, I would think these snapped together precast concrete buildings could shift and separate - causing structural issues. I know that’s a concern and has happened with some of the snap together parking decks, and I’ve heard of college dorms having similar issues (that were built the same way). I’m certainly no expert, but on-site steel or cast concrete seems to be a higher quality method.

I’m interested to see what they do with the facade, because the renderings indicated this could either look great or very cheap - depending on how they finish the exterior.

Its likely the windows are going to make this project, because more or less, what you see is what you get.

The Hawk rising part of Charlotte and Southend Rising.  From multiple angles today.  was in the area for some fajitas.  does this building have balconies my friend was asking I could not remember?

A little perspective of The Hawk rising.

all these high angle shots of Southend along the rail give it a Chicagoesque appearance. The number of 4-5 story brick(ish) buildings combined w rail could make someone confuse this area with Milwaukee blvd though Wicker Park or Clark St though the North Side.* I am pretty impressed.

*If you squint and ignore the lack of any high quality architectural features.

The Hawk apartment tower continues to soar.  Today from afar.

I am counting up to 12th floor of this tower now as of today so one more floor.  and Jeni's with this summer weather was packed as well.
