I drive by this 'project' twice a day and it does look like major construction has slowed down but there's a lot of work going on in the lower floors/areas. I mean, it still looks atrocious but whatevs.

I openly weep every time I drive by it.

I love it. It's like a big audacious middle finger to the world, and it will sell out and be full for the foreseeable future, guaranteed. :)  Granted, I don't think I'd want to see it at the corner of Market and Fulton, but at that location where it's being built, it's perfect.

I have to share a funny story about this development.  My mother lives in the Chicago area.  She is 76 and is legally blind from macular degeneration.  She sees pretty good far away,  just not so good up close.  I drive to the area quite a bit to bring her up to GR for weekends to visit her great grandkids.

She likes it when I take 196 all the way around to 131 South to get to my house because she loves that view of the City.  Needless to say on most of our recent trips she has been looking at "The Castle" and monitoring its progress.  When I take her home I do use M6 so she only sees it as we are driving north.

The last time she was up, M6 was closed for reconstruction so we had to take 196 home.  As we drove past the Castle heading south she exclaimed loudly, "Holy crap what was that developer thinking?  He built the doggone thing looking over a concrete factory and a drainage ditch!"

I almost died laughing.

He was thinking: hmmm my company owns this cheap land that was a crappy mobile home park and I have more money than I know what to do with, so what the hell.

What if the motel is just a start and it attracts all manner of silly castle referenced businesses to that stretch of Wilson.   Get in before the area is saturated!

Here's a good franchise opportunity that will fit in the neighborhood!

anybody ever been to the Castle Winery in Napa.  Lousy wine and a tour bus stop, but worth looking at once in your life.  It's been used repeatedly as a movie set.  This is actually built like a medieval castle, not a concrete fake

I have been there. It isn't just built like a medieval castle, it is a medieval castle, transported from Europe and reassembled brick-by-brick in Napa Valley, complete with a torture chamber.   They have good wine, but you can only get it if you visit the winery or join their wine-by-mail club.  Members also have access to exclusive parties on the grounds, which actually look amazing.

I went a few years ago with friends who are "in the industry", so we go VIP treatment.  Private tour, including a barrel tasting in the cellar.
