Mr. Bloom is uneducated in that he doesn't seem to understand how the drilling will take place.  There will be no noticeable construction above ground except for the entrance areas on the north and south ends of the 1.8 miles (nowhere near the tourism areas), and those will only be for a relatively short period of time. Once the initial holes are dug at both ends, they will be covered over except for the new entrance/exit areas that will eventually carry the trains/buses.

This is not correct. What Mark Bloom was alluding to was the noise, blasting, and general disruption from construction at 5th and Broadway for the station which connects to the planned tunnel.

The station will be offset from 5th and Broadway at the Bridgestone Arena Plaza.  The streets won't be closed.  And that hole will probably only be about 25' x 25' at the surface.

I think Bloom is overstating the disruption a little. The construction of one subway stop isn’t going to disrupt tourism, nobody leaves a tourism part of town because of one construction project on the absolute fringes of the tourism part of town. There’s like 12 construction projects on lower broad right now and it hasn’t dented business.

That's a great point.  Hell, 5th and Broad is a massive hole in the ground right in the middle of it all and nobody has made a peep about it affecting tourism.

Yeah I forgot to mention that. If 5th and broad doesn’t scare the tourists away one subway stop isn’t. Even if it’s a temporary disruption, the transit plan has long-term positives for that part of town. Hell, maybe the pro transit groups should start advertising the fact that the touristy part of town is against the plan: it’ll counteract how all the idiots think that the plan is just for tourists.

There was another couple of articles in the NBJ. It was a both side of the coin approach, as Charles Robert Bone Pro and Joe Scarlett Con shared their views. 

The one comment Scarlett proposed was to expand the roadways and time the traffic lights. Sorry Joe, the price tag to get the needed space for road expansion plus thecost of the roadways, bridges would proabably exced the cost of this plan and again do nothing. You can only get so many cars through a funnel at any given time. I am sure he is a smart man, but that, we all agree will not work. 

He wants a regional plan, well this is part of the regional plan. You have to get folks around at their destination (the core). If it is a giant charlie foxtrot at your destination it will be a disaster. This is the older generation, our parents and in my case the ages of my older brothers that do not want to see this happen, because they are all for themselves just like most of the baby boomer generation that got everything they wanted from parents that grew up in the depression. Most want things like they were in the good old days. These are not the good old days any longer. Leave it to the younger generation to change things, just like you wanted your parents to do when you were young. You have turned into your parents.

If these folk or the folks that are against this project would propose their own plan, I would love to hear it,but it seems as if the plan is to do absolutely nothing. Never has Mark Bloom, Lee beaman or any of these other self serving folks never offered a solution. That seems to be the problem with a lot of the folks on the right as they want to keep the status quo and bury their head in the sand.

This also does not excuse the left for pushing the envelope so far, that folks get tired of hearing the whining because they think they are being mistreated, and their rights trump everyone elses.

No I am not leaving anyone out of this because both sides of these issues end up politicizing every issue, even if its the color of the toilet paper in the bathroom.

I have stayed out of this issue on the board. I just needed to sit back and watch to show. I am not totally sold on the plan in general, but it goes a long way from where we are. Not a fan of the tunnell for one, simply because there are not enough stops and the cost. There has to be a better option.

Each side spins the facts to their advantage and we have out of state money coming in and funding one side. Outside money should be a non starter for either side.

Sorry if I for once got a litle political,  but where is the common sense in this country any more. But again my sincere appologies to all here but had to vent for a change. I dont this very often.

So they're against the transit plan because they would prefer 24 hour buses and then they talk about affordable housing?  They need a clearer message.  Also, they should be attacking Glen Casada (a non-metro suburbanite) rather than the transit plan because he is the one actively sabotaging affordable housing at the moment.

I don’t think they realize that the money raised for public transit is going specifically for public transit, it’s not just general tax money being raised. Thus, no transit plan, no money. A vote of this monetary magnitude wouldn’t pass simply for affordable housing. And there’s plenty of affordable housing if you’re willing to move to Madison, Bordeaux, Antioch, donelson, or the surrounding counties.

Depends. Typically the densest parts of many cities are the most expensive (midtown Manhattan, The Loop, etc.). As we all know, density brings with it certain positive aspects that make it very appealing to people, and they’re willing to pay a lot for it.
