Winston wins: Wise Man Brewing

So goes the headline in Triad City Beat. After initially planning to open at a site in downtown Greensboro, Wise Man Brewing confirmed tonight that it will move into a building at the edge of downtown Winston-Salem instead. Wise Man’s three founding partners, who live in Oak Ridge, wanted to move into the former Gate City Motors building next to the Greensboro Children’s Museum, near the future site of the downtown performing arts center. But when that deal fell through, Wise Man began considering two new locations, one in downtown Greensboro and the other in Winston-Salem.  Sam Victory, the brewery’s founder and head brewer, told Triad City Beat that the company will open at 826 N. Main Street, next door to Ziggy’s music venue at the corner of Trade Street  and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The brick building used to be home to the Angelo Bros. wholesaling business, and is near the forthcoming Broad Branch Distillery on Trade Street.

We are excited to announce we have found a home! The old Angelo Bros. building at 826 N. Main St. in downtown Winston Salem will be the site of Wise Man's brewery and tap room. We searched for a building that had plenty of room for production, a large tap room, and tons of outdoor seating. It was a difficult choice between WS and GSO, but we feel this building provides everything we were looking for. Our beer, however, will be distributed throughout the Triad. Expect regular updates as things pick up pace to a mid-2016 opening.

I truly believe that's how it goes in these situations. Winston & GSO are pretty much on par but the deciding factor usually turns on finding the spot that works best. Can't wait to see what they do with  the Angelo Bros. building. This seems like the perfect match.
