Fresh Market coming to Murfreesboro

Theyre going into the old Bed Bath & Beyond at the Oaks Shopping Center on N Thompson Ln. I like that the vacant store is transforming.

New sandwich shop headed for downtown Murfreesboro

Wow they must have heard me! I sent Fresh Market a letter over a year ago about that exact location. I even sent links including the city's gateway district website and the Oaks Shopping Center website/flyers.

That/this kinds of thing is part of what continues to draw more WW attention to the mid-state region as a whole ─ don't you know ─ along with the induced collateral benefit that ramifies.  I guess, where there's smoke there's fire, so to speak, an indication that far more eyebrows have been rising, than what has been "let on". -==-

Chapter 7 of the Murfreesboro 2035 Comprehensive plan is now complete. Within this chapter are suggestions for the urbanization of Murfreesboro's downtown and university areas to promote economic growth. The consultants also contemplated that Murfreesboro needs multi-level high rises, mixed used facilities, parking decks, and residential towers downtown to maximize the city's potential and solidify Murfreesboro as an independent city in the Nashville metro area. New large scale retail and business park areas were identified, as well as the increasingly important I-24/840 interchange to foster economic growth. Key weaknesses addressed were Murfreesboro's lack of strategy to develop downtown, blend downtown and the university areas seamlessly, infill surface parking, seek white collar retail, office space/jobs, and residential space, weak cooperation efforts with Nashville to promote the region's most powerful industries in health care, music, tourism, and education, and increased traffic congestion.

I don't think Murfreesboro needs skyscrapers....but I would love to see some mid/highrise development (5-15 stories) around downtown. I would like to see a couple of public parking garages near the square (similar to what Franklin has) and see parking spots eliminated from in front of the courthouse (not the entire square, but everywhere inside the sidewalk that surrounds the courthouse).

I would also love for the "downtown" feel to extend to NW/SE Broad.

I've said this for many years, under different screen names too, that Murfreesboro needs more mid-rises and a few high-rises downtown to really energize it and revive it further. There's no excuse other than the fact some many people don't want "modern" buildings on or near the square. Sorry, but BOA, SunTrust, and the NHC tower changed that and it needs to evolve.

A few months ago plans for a Civil War Park and Visitors Center around Carter House in Franklin were unveiled.  Not sure if it was posted here.  Nice addition for Civil War history tourists...

Fontanel has additional expansion plans: 136 luxury guest rooms and suites would be added to the six-room, bed and breakfast-style luxury boutique hotel. Plans also call for a 300-seat banquet and meeting hall, a resort-style pool and a spa and artisan-style retail.

The NBJ has a weekly feature Bizspace Property Spotlight. Here is one I was not familiar with in M'boro, "Introducing" Fountains at Gateway.  However, I'm pretty sure this does not mean Tiffany and Vuitton are coming to the boro?   Looks like pretty standard stuff... 400,000 of office space. Lots of surface parking with this though. Hopefully the long range will turn those lots into garages and a denser complex for live-work.  Of course, it is suburban after all.
