There were some awesome Mountain Biking trails in Bowie Park in that area 'back in the day' with moguls, creek crossings and long, fast exciting descents. But the City, 'dumbed it down' later and restricted the bikes to boring service roads to allow the equestrians right of way on the best trails. Grrr!!

I finished 3rd by the way.

As always it seems hypocritical to hear residents of one relatively new subdivision complain that a newer one is destroying the character of the neighborhood.

Clarksville has had an interest in buying the old Roxy Theater in downtown which has been home to a professional, regional theater for some time, but is currently struggling. According to the Clarksville Leaf Chronical the matter of purchasing the land for a future Performing Arts Center for $810,000 has been approved in the Council....

The decision marked what could prove to be another milestone moment in the redevelopment and resurgence of downtown — adding a performing arts center as an anchor of it all, along with Montgomery County's multipurpose events center and various private retail projects.

No details have been given, but a conceptual rendering was circulating some time ago. I had made this card to display the two renderings. The article indicates some elements of the historical facade may be preserved in the new building.

 

The current Roxy, I have been there numerous times to watch some quality plays. But, it's nice to see the City think big.

 

The City already has one of the 10 best concert halls in the nation at Austin Peay, according to an article in Robb's Report some years ago. I kid you not!!!

The new City Hall/Community Center at White House (3 stories, 26,000 sq. ft.) is underway, and should be open by the end of October.

Franklin is going to spend at least $24 million on a new downtown City Hall to replace the converted shopping mall HQ they've had for the past 41 years.  The plan is for something that is not only much more functional, but also fits architecturally with other buildings on the square.  Design work is just now getting underway.  The full project may not be complete until 2026.

Is this house on the corner a house they kept in their development?  Surely that’s not new construction…right?  If that’s a home they kept, I appreciate the fact they didn’t tear it down.  Actually adds character to the neighborhood.

I often think about this and I’m reminded that Circuit of the Americas in Austin is wildly successful and reside outside the city. Maybe it can be a model for how to go forward with the revitalization of the track?

What I’m scratching my head over is the fact that we have the historic half-mile oval just a few miles from downtown at the Fairgrounds (oldest continually running track in America)…and we have the Superspeedway about 15-20 miles east / southeast of Nashville.  The Fairgrounds track hosted NASCAR until 1984 and we let it slip away.  Ever since, Nashville has been trying to get a NASCAR race here…and Dover Motorsports even built the Superspeedway thinking it would happen (about 10-15 years ago)…to no avail.

Now…Dover has given up one of its races to now be run in Nashville at the Superspeedway for the next few years (and maybe beyond?)…while Bristol’s ownership is wanting to upgrade the Fairgrounds track with thoughts of having a top level NASCAR race there.

I just wonder who is going to win out in the end.  Will NASCAR end up allowing two races here every year…one at the Fairgrounds and one at the Superspeedway?

Good questions! I've wondered about the Fairgrounds track as well and how it lost NASCAR. Anyone here know?  Was it related in any way to the fairgrounds being a "third rail" of local politics as evidenced by the wrangling over the new facilities, then the stadium?

It is new.  When you look at the community/builder website its an option.  Westhaven has a few cool designs like this as well.
