It was cheesy but not THAT bad lol.

It's a shame the planning in Green Hills is so bad, because Vertis would be an amazing place to live otherwise (and probably worth the price tag). But the traffic and layout around there is just nonsense.

Green Hills is a super bizarre place in general if you think about it because it's this luxury neighborhood and yet the planning is all over the place, the infrastructure is terrible in a lot of areas, and power lines run rampant everywhere you look. It's funny watching that video because it really emphasizes this sort of juxtaposition happening there with a modern glass apartment tower surrounded by a sea of decrepit parking lots and weird twists on suburbia. I'd like to see more effort put into modernizing things like the sidewalks to catch up with the retail.

Seriously, unless you were standing there looking directly at the Nordstrom I don't think anyone would guess that Green Hills was anything more than your run of the mill suburban commercial mishmash.  That's the thing that is so frustrating though about so many Nashville neighborhoods.  They really aren't THAT far away from looking like respectable, cohesive neighborhoods that are the way they are on purpose.  All that's really holding them back is some better street/crosswalk design, nicer sidewalks, and buried powerlines, and boom, areas like Green Hills would look a hundred times more polished... but the city still seems more or less disinterested in actually investing in improving the quality of life in it's neighborhoods beyond the basic necessities.  Aside from the occasional repave or randomly placed lazy 'paint a bike on a shoulder and pretend it's a bike lane' style bike lanes the city is so fond of, I really don't know that most major Nashville thoroughfares have been updated since the seventies.

Yes....first of all, it's too bad that Hillsboro Pike is not a tree-lined parkway with nice, wide sidewalks...and it's too bad there isn't some type of zoning to encourage owners of retail buildings to either reconstruct their buildings into something more urban and substantial or sell to developers...with small towers with office / retail and less paved lots.  It doesn't have to be a total rebuild, but those strip centers like where the Bluebird is...well...come on.  There is nothing urban about that at all.
