Has anyone else heard rumors of this project changing scope a little bit? ...along the lines of actual retail being included? My source is not closely involved. Nonetheless, I wanted to check the UP pulse on this one.

Crossing fingers that your rumor is correct. Main st is an extremely desired retail location and it keeps pedestrian traffic moving (win-win).  I always thought it was stupid of the city and DRB to abandon the rule of keeping retail on main st that has proven to be so effective so far.  Oh wait they did let it slide with 98 E. McBee (oh never mind that is for the most part considered one of the worst new developments in the past ten years).

Who said anything about abandoning retail on main?  There is a rule that main street developments have to have retail, it was recently implemented in direct response to this development.  And 98 E. McBee isn't on main street, so I'm not sure how that is relevant.

98 E McBee was controversial for not having retail on street level, it was a bad idea and therefore is relevant.  Foresight can be used to project that all development downtown should have retail to move pedestrians down side streets and secondary streets, otherwise we have a 14 mile long main st. This project skirted the retail requirement if I remember correctly by putting a small leasing office on main.  Hardly the contiguous retail needed to keep pedestrian traffic moving past the building.

All good points, but as I understand it, the code has been changed to specifically require retail along Main St. since this project was approved.

Those bottom two pictures display an excellent view of the evolving Greenville skyline.  A different angle than the usual views. They also show the new density in the west end with all the new apartment and condominium buildings.

South Main street is looking more and more attractive  as the trees grow.
