Can a city run out of room?

Recommended Posts

Interesting article on density of major cities and the idea prevalent in many urban centers that there is not enough room for all of the new residents.  Author makes the argument that many US cities have a lot more room to grow and some of the lowest densities in the world.

Yes the author does make a sound argument in favor of increasing densities in many US cities.  Here in DC there is an impassioned debate on lifting the height ceiling for buildings.  I think this revision is badly needed and maybe should occur in areas outside of the Downtown core where all of the monuments reside.  DC needs to find a way of increasing density without making housing cost even more expensive.
