rockhilljames 102 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 So horrible. It's just going to gut that end of Camden and create a big blank wall on Tryon. This is why we can't have nice things.
cltbwimob 1204 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 CBJ has an article on it now: http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/real_estate/2015/10/cousins-files-plans-for-office-development-at.htmlThere is a quote in there from the developer's lawyer that's rather interesting:Uh... What crackhead thinks this development in its current form is positive? Other than maybe positively horrible. I am assuming they have only talked to DudaPaine, Cousins, Gaines Brown, construction crews, and demolition crews; those are the only groups I can imagine giving any sort of positive reaction. Every one else hates this project. Some of us, because of the things it would displace, hated it before we even saw renderings, but now having seen the renderings, we really hate it.
RaleighHeelsfan 95 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 I did my job. Sent emails to everyone!!! "Uh... What crackhead thinks this development in its current form is positive? Other than maybe positively horrible." Where does it say that? Or is that a joke? lol...It's true though!
Crown 394 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) Jeff Brown, a lawyer with Moore & Van Allen who is representing Cousins, says that the developer’s discussions with neighborhood stakeholders so far have been good.“We’ve had some positive conversations with folks who have an interest in the South End area,” he says. “Obviously change is something that takes a little while for people to gravitate to, but the early indications have been positive.”Hilarious. His email is easy to find on the web if you are so inclined to tell him otherwise. And what is an "neighborhood stakeholder"? The only image that comes to mind is this: Edited October 8, 2015 by Crown

appatone 13 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 I'd be all to happy to compose an email of "Best of" quotes from places like UP and Facebook where people are laying into this thing and send it directly to Cousins if they haven't heard the complaints. In fact, would it be possible to schedule an "event" on facebook (an online sit in if you will) where we schedule a time to get everyone with grievances to post directly to the social media accounts of these companies. In fact, we could probably use Common Market's friend list to get the word out (among other groups). ;-P Hundreds or more complaints in the span of an hour would surely get their attention. If City officials and organizations show a genuine lack of care, once again, I'd take to social media. Use the city's precious #RailTrailCLT and #Charlottesgotalot against it. This development is everything the rail trail is not supposed to be. If the city and these developers only want feel good crap written about them they might get a jolt when their own hashtags are used against them. This isn't the 60's, time to revolt like Millennials. Hit them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, anywhere outsiders view them. We could hit where it hurts the most, where it's most public.
ah59396 3234 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 This building is the best thing that ever happened to the AvidXchange project. It might be time to light them up again too. the battle for crapty growth in Charlotte rages on.
ah59396 3234 Report post Posted October 9, 2015 Also just want to echo what some others are saying on here. I have a hard time getting on Duda Paine for this project. It's actually attractive and if they had proposed this for even South Park, I'd be very happy with it. It's just the worst place ever to put something like this. This really falls more on DFA and Cousins.

Silicon Dogwoods 404 Report post Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) I like the design. Just not in South End. It is somewhat odd that DFA made much of wanting to be in the urban core, then presented a building design not in keeping with its surroundings.Regardless, let's not run off the excellent jobs to other Carolina. This is a big win for Charlotte. This is a new regional headquarters. These 300+ jobs pay an average annual comp in excess of 100k and are squarely within Charlotte's signature industry, finance. These are Charlotte jobs, not Ft. Mill jobs. The salaries and tax monies they will eventually generate (well, the portion that Sen. Harry Brown, R-Onslow does not siphon off down east) are an important source of funding for other things we want Charlotte to accomplish.Welcome, DFA! Really like your building! Silicon Dogwoods 404 Report post Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Yes, oddly so for a tech co. I think they'll get bought, sooner rather than later. Someone will want their payments platform. DFA might stick around for a while. Edited October 9, 2015 by Silicon Dogwoods
atlrvr 2143 Report post Posted October 9, 2015 What I find interesting for DFA is that Cousins indicated DFA will be the sole tenant, but 265k sq ft of space is more like 800-1000 employees. Either the plan to sublease the space, or have much bigger growth plans.

KO 11 Report post Posted October 10, 2015 Just wanted to let folks know that the South End Neighborhood Association is working on putting together a community meeting in the next couple of weeks to listen to concerns and develop constructive feedback for the developer/architect. I will post further details when we have them. This forum has been very helpful in pointing out ways to improve the current proposal and we hope to hear more good ideas!
Deleted. 266 Report post Posted October 10, 2015 "Charlotte Plaza" how original. The name fits with their new skyscraper: Charlotte Tower I'm kidding. But you're righ, couldn't they come up with something more orignal? Anyway this project seems so boring and uninspired. Very vanilla.

Jayvee 3019 Report post Posted October 13, 2015 Got to talk to Gaines Brown directly tonight at the civic by design meeting. To make a long story short....change (whether big or small) is in motion. Some items he seemed open to were the shrinkage of the lobby, and street front retail. We will see what happens. The SENA is going to set up a neighborhood meeting, but Gaines wants a specific list of whats wrong, what can be better type thing to present to Duda, Cousins and DFA. Lets use this forum to help the SENA (KO) out in creating this list constructively.
