300 South Tryon and Kimpton Hotel

Headquarter relocation from airport sub-market to Uptown.  In addition to the taking space at 300 S Tryon and adding headcount, they will also be opening a French inspired restaurant and a separately located coffee shop.

This was first mentioned on this site a couple months ago (UP on the leading edge)  and it is great to have the French restaurant and coffee shop coming along with it. The diversification of other corporate office users in the uptown market is a great thing for it really expands the market and will lead to more new towers. Sounds like some jobs are moving to Charlotte too from other locations which is great as well.

Took a site tour yesterday.  Here are some shots from the top of the hotel side from the patio area at the bar.

The park's trees are really filling in beautifully. Those rooms will have a great view! It looks like a grown up park now and the tree canopy is finally providing welcome relief in the summer while relaxing in the park.

Don't worry about it. Use it. I only take pictures like these on projects to post on here anyhow. If it is the one of Ascent, use the one I posted in the Ascent thread as it is higher quality.

This office building and Kimpton Hotel turned out far better than I thought from the initial renderings. I like everything about it. The linear park is coming along great too.

The second photo makes me sad. I want to find the evil brain that came up with the "open office" concept and force them to sit at one of those desks for eternity.

It looks like they have sliding glass partitions to separate the perimeter offices from the interior open office area

^^^ Those interior work areas look like Barings trading desk, where there will be walls of monitors running down the middle....they went all fancy it seems and got adjustable height desks for each person.

Those adjustable height desks are like the medical marijuana of the office world. Many companies have just started building new office's with them because everyone would come in with a "medical reason" from their doctor to need one. Cheaper just to give everyone one.

Off topic, but BofA is remodeling four floors in TransAmerica. They're going to the open office concept and, get this, no one will have an assigned work station, just a locker. Heads are exploding at this news.

Cfo's/ceo's reading magazines again. Once they have an open office and locker themselves I'm in. I wonder if making the CEO live locally and eliminating the corporate jet and business class travel would pay for decent offices?

I read a funny article in the observer today about outsourcing programming to India for 60/month vs. 5k per month here for a programmer. Yeah if your doing rote conversion work possibly but this is 90% hyperbole and publishing that without fact checking is bad journalism.

I'm in an open office concept where we don't even have lockers. You load up your backpack and leave everyday. At first I was annoyed, but I've realized there are many perks to moving around. I can sit in an office with the door shut when I need to take a phone meeting, leading to the open office floor being quieter. I can sit by people I need to work with and if somebody is sick, annoying, loud, etc... I just get up and move away. You can meet more people and you learn to live more simply. My office has many places to get away from your open desk though. Sometimes I work at a standing desk, at a normal desk, in a booth, couch, hightop table, private office, etc... Before the open office none of us non-execs had private offices. Now I can use one for an hour without a reservation and then go back out for regular work.

I despise open offices. It's one of the major reasons I went remote. Try working as a software developer when random business guys can just walk over to your table in the middle of the floor and interrupt you to ask about something random because they assume all the "tech guys" know about all aspects of the company's technology. (Or want you to reset their password.)
