The Glass Railings on Ascent look amazing. I wonder if they will keep them raw concrete like that though.

Heres a construction update I got from Spectrum Properties this morning:

CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS August marked a big milestone for the hotel -- the concrete structure is now complete! Not to be outdone, the office tower will be topping out in September. Both projects are progressing well. The next big milestone for both projects will be the curtain wall exterior and roofing. OFFICE TOWER The concrete core is currently at floor 26 (roof). The steel structure is currently at floor 24. The exterior glass and stone is currently at floor 9. HOTEL The concrete structure is complete. The exterior glass is currently at floor 13. The interior framing of the guestrooms has commenced. Continued installation of structural steel and metal decking/concrete on the office tower. Continued installation of the glass curtainwall on both the hotel and office. Continued installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure for both projects.

Riddle me this, what are the white orbs on the facade of the Kimpton? Decorative lighting? They only partially cover the building, on the park side it looks like they're only on half the building, split along a diagonal

It's lighting in a checked pattern.  The photo is white lighting, but curious if it's LED that changes colors.  I think there's a photo a number of pages back.  I'd repost the photo, but can't figure out how.

Its appearance is completely bewildering to me. Two Wells Fargo is even worse. Did people think these things looked good in the 1970s?? Someone was asleep at the wheel.

There has been quite a bit of renovation work on the interior of 400 S Tryon recently, but I'm not sure if that will bleed out to the exterior.  At the very least, they could do something cool with the lighting and make it a pretty interesting building at night.  Those awful gold windows need to be replaced too!

As for 300 S Tryon, I really wish this building was about 100 feet taller.  I dig the design and would love for it to have a larger presence.  The Kimpton looks great!

No, one thing I noticed when looking at the latest pictures of 300 ST and Kimpton is that, aesthetically, they are just going to be more glass curtains -- something that Uptown has way too much of IMO.  400 ST is not individually attractive, but it is unique in our skyline.  Just because something isn't en-vogue anymore, doesn't mean you need to cover it up.  More unique buildings are what our skyline needs, not just another glass box.  The reflections this tower makes are my favorite part of this building.  When the sun hits it right, gold streaks of light shine along our streets. It's almost an homage to the gold mines of Uptown's past.  That's something incredibly unique for Charlotte to appreciate.  I love it and I hope the tower never changes.

That said, I will admit the street level of this tower is in need of updating, but that's strictly from a practicality and functionality standpoint.

I am also internally protesting the re-cladding of UNCC's dorm towers.  But at least they have an "image" to uphold, so I can sorta excuse it.  Recladding any non-dilapidated building in uptown would be a crime.  But that's just this guy's opinion.

As for 300 ST, I don't mind it blending in as another glass box as it has a unique crown, but I wish there was more texture to the tower (like the old, pre-recession rendering had.)
