That goes along with what I have heard and it has been confirmed now, several times. A facility like that is a waste of real estate in the core. I am with I think everyone on the board that the older building needs to stay. That would be absolutely criminal to bring it down and if sold, that could be part of the sales agreement, to keep the building.

All of the Mazda dealership is razed. One old wall still remains. I believe this was part of a auto manufacturing plant around 1920.  Not sure if this is being kept for historical reasons, or if it will eventually come down as well.  Core drilling taking place.

The blasting is needed to demolish the former Nelson Mazda dealership site at 12th and Broadway. 

The blasting will occur near 12th and 13th streets Monday through Friday and is scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on those days. No blasting will occur on Nov. 23-26, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Some interesting news:  Spoke with a foreman on site this morning. 

- He said it is going to be 28 stories....not 26.

- The top several floors are going to be multi-million dollar condos.

- There will be two cranes.  The first (see top photo below for the base in place) is along George L. Davis Blvd. and will go up this week and reach about 200 feet.

- The second crane will be along 12th Ave. North (as can be seen from some pics a few weeks ago), and will rise about 420 feet. Probably up within 2-3 weeks. 

- They are having to bury the NES power lines along 12th Ave. for just 1/2 block so they can open the street.  Should be finished in next two weeks---if not, they get socked with some huge fines from legal proceedings that are percolating with several of the eateries just to the north of there that are losing business due to 12th being closed for construction over the past 6 weeks.

- Major delays due to all the rain lately, but are battling through it the best they can. Normally 80-120 people working on site for now. Once the basement floor is fully poured (hopefully done within a week), then the crews will begin to swell to an eventual 300.

The power lines along 12th Ave. North (paralleling the Tennessean Building) are coming down and being buried along 12th in the next two weeks. Looking SE from alley between Broadway and Gundy St:

When i say this about the number of floors, its a matter of record with Metro. You cant add floors to a project without getting approval from the proper places. We had heard other projects were going to be taller after construction started, but in fact it was aeither a misinformed employee or from the lowest below grade to the roof.

When the construction supers get the job, they are looking at the total number of floors to be built. 

I understand the hopeful and wishful thinking though.

We may get a new tallest announced sometime next year, but we have to be patient.

If anyone can put together a new tallest, Tony can. I had that belief re-affirmed after walking 505 this weekend for a possible buyer of a unit there.
