The charm of WP (in my opinion) has always been that its uniquely not Floridian.

Seems lately that WP is reversing that by going full-on Florida.  This rendering of the hotel could be dropped into any city from Miami to JAX.

It looks like the identical (but runty) twin of The Alfond.

Lazy, uninspired architecture created to benefit the corporate interests of people who know nothing about the area or its history and think... It's in Florida, so if we make it look Florida-y everyone will like it.

Sadly, for the most part, they're right.

Probably 99% of the people who see it or stay in it, will never even notice the architecture or give a thought to it.

I'm not a big fan of it, but the appearance seems to fit into the so called New England aesthetic the Parkites so love.

The locals seem universally opposed to it- traffic, infringement on neighborhoods, appearance, etc but these 2 proposed hotels bring a lot of revenue to the City and will likely go forward.

popciclebrandon was replying to my post about the hotel off 17/92, not Hannibal Square.

That's correct- The Henderson on Lake Kilarney is the hotel off 17-92 and is the hotel Brandon referred to and is also the hotel I posted about... ???  We're all discussing the same property.

Spenser posted about one on Hannibal- currently being called The Hotel Winter Park.

Scott J is reporting that BoVine, the long anticipated replacement for Park Plaza Gardens, will FINALLY open in March:

I wish it would return to being the East India Ice Cream Co.

Only couple of times I'v ever been in there.

Never Mind - The long-discussed Orange Avenue Overlay Project, which was finally approved just weeks ago, has been shot down again:

Once again, another “Triumph of the NIMBYs” from the fine folks of Winter Park.

The post office saga continues:

Although I’m not opposed to a move, I like the post office there and it’s one of the better examples of ‘60’s commercial architecture.

Since I’m not tony enough to live in The Land of Peacocks, though, I’ll just sit here and sip on my Diet Dr Pepper.

I would miss the public art most!

It appears Winter Park’s dilettantes may have to pay a price for their fickleness regarding the Orange Avenue Overlay Project.

Developer Demetree  is suing the city:
