It is hard to call it a bailout when most of these companies did nothing wrong.

Agreed. I didn't call it a bailout and, btw, 2 of my companies got PPPs. I don't take offense to the phrase. Without being "bailed out" a lot of employers would have gone "belly up".

My bad, it was not directed at you. The website is listed as bailouts which is just gross.

Thanks. Just curious which businesses needed loans and I'm not sure if this is the same database... but there was a story in the news about scammers taking out loans under unsuspecting people's names: https://www.wftv.com/news/9investigates/farms-downtown-orlando-some-residents-receive-bills-cares-act-loans-they-didnt-apply/DILZAJ5CYFFMJHPZUFIMPVW3FQ/

The latest on the Luma On Park drama:

From Scott J

Oh, and just a tad of disclosure. It turns out I knew one of the partners from Luma’s law firm, Bob Stovash, from back in the days at the old BGBG in what was then the Southeast Bank Building. Ah, what a small little world…

The Sentinel sums up the WP post office situation nicely and also gives us an excellent history lesson on what happens when a mayor thinks developers can do no wrong and must be heeded.

OCPS still has 94 acres available adjoining I-4 on the Hungerford site.

It seems UP, infamous for making a hash of the OFS redo, has now dropped the ball over here as well.

With Host Dime going up next door, this could be amazing. Hopefully, whoever gets the nod will exercise some… competence.

That fell out of contract five or so years ago.

That site has been a mess for at least 15 years and can never get any traction. To make it worse, the school board sold land w/o master planning it first.

They have settled this. Doubt we ever find out what the terms were but this is almost over now.

When the Cornell moves to its larger space in downtown WP at New England and Interlachen (across from the Alfond Inn), it will also have a new name, Rollins Museum of Art:

The work that the current leadership has put in, with generous support from the Alfond family, has made this already great institution truly special.  Looking forward to the next chapter!

WP appears to finally be ready to proceed with Progress Point, a small park proposed for Denning and Orange on the site of the old Florida Power office.

It would definitely spiff up that area.

Lombardi’s is pretty much the fishmonger of choice hereabouts but Scott J reports the adjoining cafe is still trying to get its groove back:

I miss my trips to Petty’s Meats followed by a stop at Lombardi’s. The perfect protein run to provision the fridge for the week…

WP has issued an RFP to relocate its downtown post office.

If there was a good place to put it, I suspect we’d already know. However, maybe I’ll be surprised.

I hope not, as it’s one of the few 1960’s gems in town. I’ve also been disappointed by the replacements they’ve come up with elsewhere (what they did to a cool ‘40’s post office building in WG made me ill).

Nevertheless, here we are again. The good news is WP usually fights like cats and dogs over most things and rarely moves forward. Here’s hoping that’s the case on this one.

I was kinda hoping that they would develop that 6-corner intersection (Orange/Denning/Minnesota) with triangular building(s) like you see up in like Chi-town; make it more urban...

I know its just moving but dang if I didn't love that place where it was for so long.

I worked in the design dept. of an exhibit company during the 90's.

We did a couple of sci-fi themed projects, one of which was supposed to have an early 60's NASA/Outer Limits kind of feel.

I got to go on a shopping trip to Sky Craft.

Lotsa fun.

I always liked "Knob World".

The little section where they have every kind and size of control knob you could think of.

Except the one you're looking for.

Oh my, it’s the end of an era. The Bubbalou’s on Lee Rd. (I think it was the first) is closing after 35 years (I remember we went the first week with flashbacks of the long lost Meiner’s in Fairvilla on our mind - it was from the same FFO).

Fortunately, Apopka, Conroy and Altamonte continue to pig out.

(If you’re a devotee of fast-food lore like me, you may notice from the outline of the sign and the building it was in an old Maryland Fried Chicken location - how interesting they decided to close as the final MFC in WG is closing as well…)
