It appears to be topped out if you look at this rendering and compare it to the webcam and the recent photos.

This really makes a huge a impact from Capital Blvd. 

Side note: hard to tell from the pics but the new Peace St bridge is quite narrow, especially for a modern bridge.  Hopefully it will keep speeds relatively in check heading into downtown.

I don't think the whole bridge is open yet. Half of it will have to take the north bound traffic while the other span gets built...notice the north bound traffic is still on the old span.

Quick update from earlier today.  Work has started on Phase II, can't wait to see that part rise as well.

The Raleigh Planning Commission recommended approving the 40-story addition to this project.

some drive bys from Peace St today.  This is a great project for the downtown area especially with the Publix.  

and the Archdale state office building for good measure!

finally  the city council approved an up to 40 story downtown outside of a really small downtown area this time for Kane in Smoky Hollow.  If anyone can get a tower like this done it is Kane.

I understand the debate over affordable housing in many urban areas, but what I don't understand is the insistence that affordable housing be included in high profile developments such as this. To a certain extent I believe that continuing to ram socioeconomic agendas such as this into ever development discussion will ultimately lead to a reluctance to build transformative projects  by many developers and hence a loss of revenue for the cities involved.

I agree.  I think Kane was willing to contribute money to a housing fund but they the city council insisted on including it in the project which makes it more complex.

Maybe some on the city council are just not sophisticated enough in urban planning and development to realize the burden this will place on the developer and how it can actually become a negative for the city if the project fails to materialize because of this.
