It is one of the foundation pilings........if you look close enough, you can see the rebar sticking out.

So based on the picture above, I guess they ultimately didn't get that parking lot after all.

It looks like they were stabilizing the piling so they could do some utility work.  They were cutting some big ductile iron pipe the other day.....sewer connection, storm drain.  2nd has been closed all week.

As far as I can tell, they aren’t putting any parking below ground, so in the event of a 2010esque flood, the first floor lobby and retail spaces would be the areas flooded vs the rest of the building.

Could someone explain what this process is?  They've dug to bedrock and poured pilings.  Now they're digging around them to do something.  Thank you in advance for your detailed explanation.

Lawful Evil: taken in conjunction with the previous one that was dug out, there is a problem with the foundation that necessitates a re-do.

Neutral Good: there's a design change to add 30 stories.

Chaotic Neutral: they decided they want a below-ground parking garage.

I'll let the gallery decide which one they want to go with.

At the Centric site, they dug down around the pilings, placed rebar, and then poured concrete. I imagine they will do similar here.

Was flipping through some of the older posts and this photo really stands out.   Such a good shot of Demonbreun from 1st Ave all the way to the roundabout (can see the Virgin Hotel well).  I started working in Nashville in 2000 and used to park in the lot south of the arena where the convention center now sits.  Am amazed at how this street has changed since the bridge over the railroad yards was replaced.
