I’m so hopeful for LED Lights at the top of this project soon. It seems so barren at the top at night I cannot imagine that they wouldn’t.

My apologies if this has already been discussed, but is the portion circled in the photo going to stay like it is? I actually don’t mind it, takes away from the boxiness. I’ve also noticed the lines on the crown that are supposed to be lit. Any idea when and how the signage will go up since the crane is down?

They’re slowly adding the windows that separate the balconies from the interior, but for the most part, yes, it will stay like that.

143 condos in the top 26 floors. Unsure the number of keys for the hotel, but it takes up floors in between the parking deck(3 stories I believe) and the condos. 1st floor is being used for the lobbies/restaurant space.

Love Nashville, as I hope most of you know, but I’m in Pittsburgh right now and relishing the variety of building styles. I hope the next generation of towers in nvl will not be so glassy…. More metallic and stone exteriors would be great   IMHO.

I think its been a while since Pittsburgh has had a new tower, the  Tower @ PNC Plaza which has an all glass facade which was finished in 2015. Most of the new towers are mostly glass due to energy saving concerns.

One could argue that all glass towers are the least energy efficient way to facade a building. It’s certainly a much more cost effective way of doing it because you have your weather barrier, building envelope, finish all wrapped into one. But energy efficient would be a hard debate on my opinion.

Respectfully disagree.

Many of the newer buildings are much more energy efficient because of glass. Not that I want glass building everywhere as I do think it can be rather boring, I will say it seems as if it the way of the future as it it cheaper and lightweight.

  Glass buildings allow natural lighting, but this causes solar heat gain and higher cooling expenses during summer. Thanks to innovation in glass manufacturing, this can be offset with energy efficient fenestration.

  Glare

  Another issue that must be considered is the potential glare that occurs with glass surfaces. There are special coatings and techniques to reduce glare in glass, and the window layout can also be optimized so the sun is not directly visible.

  Benefits of Low-E Glass

  Low-emissivity glass reduces heat transfer significantly, compared with conventional glass. This type of glass improves natural lighting and thermal performance in buildings. Low-E coatings block parts of the solar spectrum, and they limit the passage of ultraviolet and infrared light. However, visible light can pass through without any problem.

  A low-emissivity material is one that radiates small amounts of thermal energy. When the glass in a building has this property, heat is conserved more effectively during winter, and heat gain is reduced during summer. As a result, the HVAC system can operate more efficiently.

I love Pittsburgh's skyline. Cool buildings. Especially the castle-ly looking one. Great height and great destiny. I go there often because I have friends there. I wouldn't want to move there for various reasons but visiting, especially during the warmer months, it's different. You feel like you're in the empty coal country area but you're in this large city. It's got character.
