This forum hasn't been very active lately but that doesn't mean development projects in downtown Wilmington haven't been active!

101 N 3rd Street (Office) (Complete)
City Block Apartments 814 N 3rd St - 112 Units (Complete)
Sawmill Point Apartments - 278 Units (Under Construction)
Embassy Suites - 186 rooms (Under Construction)
Pier 33 Apartments - 300 Units (Proposed - is it U/C yet?)
Riverplace Wilmington - 163 Units (Proposed)

Thoughts?

I think Wilmington has some of the best potential of all of the downtowns in NC.  Maybe not to become a skyscraper canyon, but a great, dense neighborhood.  It has such great historic character and bones to build off of.  And the area around downtown is not that bad either.  Now, the sections around the university...that's another story.  But it's a great city.  Excited to see the new developments.

Are there any renderings of these that you can post on the forum?

This River Place development on Water Street is fantastic. Does anyone know if all phases will be built at once? Coming from Charlotte I would call this a game changer for downtown Wilmington as are the 2 new large apartment complexes along the river. http://www.riverplacewilmington.com/  Keep us updated local UPers with photos of demo and construction.

Here are the 2 apartment complexes going up along the river

These will change the downtown area for the better. More residents = more retail = more restaurants = more businesses will want to be there not to mention tourists.

All these photos are from today: Sawmill Creek apartments north end of downtown and new Embassy Suites hotel underway will open late next year next to the river and convention center. It is using panelized construction and will now fly upward after the base is in. Downtown Wilmington is getting more and more vibrant. Went by the new Farmin on Front store a mini grocery store deli on Front St

Here is the Farmin' on Front store a mini grocery store that opened today. All the basics were there and nice bakery and coffee shop and prepared foods.

Thanks for contributing to all of the NC sites, "KJHburg"!  Sometimes our smaller metro areas like Wilmington and Asheville are left out in the cold.  But there is development in those cities along with places such as Fayetteville, Hickory, and Greenville!

I think people in Charlotte can learn a lot by travelling the state and seeing what the smaller cities like Wilmington are doing in terms of historic preservation, small scale retail downtown, infill projects etc. There is a lot of good going on in downtowns across the state. Wilmington's new RiverPlace development by East West Partners is a transformative project for downtown Wilmington and any city in NC would be  proud to have it.

Four 7 story buildings and 3 parking garages proposed just south of the Battleship across the river from downtown. Not sure how I feel about this and what about flooding possibilities?  http://www.starnewsonline.com/news/20170823/huge-mixed-use-project-proposed-next-to-battleship

I think this would be good for the battleship. It could help draw potential tourists to that now desolate area.

I have dreams of this island as becoming a mini Manhattan, which is very far-fetched idea, but this is certainly the first step in that direction.
