The City of Milton's vision for downtown would throw a lifeline to an underused area with boundless potential for commercial, residential and recreational growth.

A plan developed by Milton civic leaders and government officials focuses on "reuniting the city with the Blackwater River," making the riverfront the focal point of downtown by incorporating a marina, an amphitheater, open space, restaurants, shops and residences.

"My personal vision is to bring residences along the riverfront," Mayor Guy Thompson said. "I would like to see investors come in with developers to take a look at the riverfront from the existing Riverwalk and Carpenter Park and develop that with retail businesses.

"That would utilize the riverfront and be a tremendous boost for downtown and the city. There is such potential "
