The back forty has a HUGE draw especially on the weekends, I wouldn’t expect that property to change hands anytime in the near future.

With all the surface lots being gobbled up, it's only a matter of time before the under-utilized one and two story buildings are demolished for something taller

I think that is a far far thing off in GR.  Just down the street from this area is still the single largest parking lot complex in DT at the corner of Market and W. Fulton and at Grandville and Market.

There's plenty of single story buildings that will be part of the next wave. I'd guess in the next decade. The Back Forty has a place downtown but I imagine at sometime will be displaced somewhere else.

Isn't 48 Fulton W (Back Forty's building) part of the Historic District?  I wonder if taking that building down for something taller would be a challenge.

I’m sure it is. And it’s a unique building for the area. I don’t think you’d see that one meeting the wrecking ball. It seems like you’d have to at least take out Buffalo Wild Wings and this building to have a big enough footprint to make something work. I’d throw it on the “ain’t gonna happen” pile.

Probably no need for a tower crane; this thing towers above the tower crane at the theater/hotel site.

It's almost therapeutic watching it go up. You know it's going to look nice, and you just want to enjoy it being built bit by bit.

I think its one of the most unusual builds I've seen!    Seems like its been a slow go since they went vertical or is that just me?   Glad to see progress.

Thought the same thing. They’ve got one more level to add before they start building the actual hotel room floors. I wonder if those will go much faster?

Either way, I’m enjoying my ride home every day as I get to see the building grow.

So it looked like they were mainly working on the core today, which was a lot of precast, are they using the concrete as a "glue" to keep the precast together?

I'm sure all the connections are mechanical. Concrete is very good in compression, very poor in tension (glue). I haven't seen the design but some of those panels have "gaps" designed to be poured after the precast are placed.

On my commute home last night I noticed a lot of these precast panels at Kerkstra and some of them even had windows already installed.

Is this entire building pre-cast?  How common is that for a building of this size?  Brings to mind a giant toy set or IKEA fixture--"insert tab a into slot b"
